My bust is 2” higher than standard RTW clothing and sewing patterns. (I know that gravity and age will eventually rid me of this issue, but in the meantime, I look like I have an udder if I wear unaltered tops and dresses.) I’ve learned how to raise bust darts upward on patterns, but I don’t know how to best accomplish this on the Saint Germa…[Read more]

Thanks for the quick response, Todd. I am not so quick!
Yep: lots of negative ease, and a snug fit – perfect for yoga pants!
My confusion was the pictures – they all look so loose! I realize that the sketch is intended to be only representational. But what about the photos? I noticed that one of the reviewers had used a size 5 – which matched…[Read more] -

I like Lightning’s thoughts about it! (And I think it’s a size limit regarding posting here. If you make the photo smaller you should be able to post it.)

I think “over the top” and “as it pleases them” and “with pockets” are really the only rules when it comes to sewing for two year Olds.
So, by those benchmarks your dress is a winner! -

It’s possible, sure. But you won’t like it as much 😉
The back waistband with the two channels of thinner elastic has a much nicer feel with softer gathers and just wears SO much better than with one wide elastic.
Wider elastic will either be really stiff, or will be prone to folding. As I’m typing this, I’m wearing an Everyday Skirt that I…[Read more]

Hi,
I’m back and almost done with my second BBdress. I posted it on Facebook because I can’t post pictures on this discussion for whatever reason.
It was quite a challenge but I’m happy that I lined the bodice, made a new neckline, color blocked it, added flair to the skirt, French seamed the skirt…learning new things and improving my skill…[Read more] -

Hi! I’m new to sewing. The Everyday skirt is my first attempt at making a garment. Is it possible to use a 20mm or 30mm elastic for the waistband instead of the thin ones indicated in the instructions?

I believe it’s not just the negative ease of the fabric that drives the difference. The pants have an elastic waist, so the relaxed measurement includes the elastic at rest. The waist will expand significantly when worn due to the elastic and the knit fabric.

What am I missing?
The size chart for this pattern shows the Size 2T hip size as 22″ inches.
But under the “Details” tab, the “Finished Measurements” chart shows the finished hip “relaxed measurement” for a 2T to be 20 1/2 inches.
I realize that the pattern is designed for a knit with some stretch. But an inch and a half negative ease seems a…[Read more] -
