Thanks Fi! The bike has dried out but only time will tell. The kelly chain is going flat out right now and I have knocked off from sewing. I can hear a two legged mouse getting into the milo but the baby is fed and I am too tired to get up and evict it back to bed!

The pants have their waistbands pinned on and there is so far just one top cut…[Read more]

Tamara, I used the Darling Diapers Unlimited Pattern for the fitteds, but after I did that I found this site with lots of great free patterns. I used the NB/S squaretab to make my pockets and her FOE cover pattern for my covers.

  • Many decades ago, my school performed Noah’s Flood (B Brittain). With so many different animals, costumes were a problem. Solved by masks that were worn sort’ve on top of our heads (paper mache), and bodies in simple A-line tunics over leotards with long sleeves, and legs. I simply cannot remember what we did for shoes – I know bare feet would not…[Read more]

Yowie, T! A cyclone. Help! Really sorry to hear about M’s bike; that’s serious. Admire your cool to keep sewing throughout, and looking fwd to pic of Chloe in T party dress. I’m sure the rain is welcome, but I hope wind damage is minimal.

Heidi, there was damage but not structural – and Murray lost his motorbike in the creek (which looks more like a river at the moment).

But it didn’t deter me from sewing because the Puppet show set is complete (if you don’t count the elastic in the shorts) and the sunbonnet looks so cute with it.

The Teaparty dress is still awaiting…[Read more]

  • I just finished my first Hide and Seek dress. This has definatly been a slow to warm up pattern for me. But it jumped out when I was trying to work out what to make from some leopar print pinwale courduroy. With the addition of some black velvet, a hood, ears and a zip, I present the Hooded Leopard Hide and Seek…[Read more]

  • Glad there’s no damage so far, Tamara.
Yes, I’ll put up the photo of the Hide And Seek Dress with hood (and ears and front zip :).
I’ve moved onto making some More leggings for my niece for school. She has muscle weakness in her lower legs and falls down a lot. I made her 3 pairs of double Knee leggings last June from some poor quality stretch…[Read more]

  • It depends on how much stretch the lace has to it. If you’re going to use it as an overlay with a non-stretch under it I would say you wouldn’t make any changes. If you’re using it with a stretch fabric underneath it, and they are both fairly stretchy, you may be able to eliminate the back zip, cut off the mid back seam allowance and then cut it…[Read more]

  • I love the fairy tale pattern! It is my favorite dress pattern! I have made numerous variations of this pattern for my four young granddaughters, including heirloom sewing Easter dresses, silk Christmas dresses and Halloween costumes. Now I would like to use it to recreate a stretch lace party dress I saw in a catalogue. Is it possible? How would…[Read more]

54mm at the house and still raining. No damage at the buildings but Murray has gone for a muddy bike ride to inspect what further fences and floodgates are down. Very windy but we still have power which I made the most of while Chloe was asleep and worked on hemming the tunic.

So today we have perfect sewing weather and we are going to make the…[Read more]

  • one year I had to make about 30 costumes for the kindergarten kids to be blackbirds, (along with numerous donkeys, ladybugs, fireflies, camels, stars, lambs, and angels for the older kids) for the school Christmas show. I made hats similar to the ones shown above in those wonderful pictures and video (just loved looking at those!) and the kiddos…[Read more]
