Deborah started the topic Sizing – waist to hip distance in the forum liesl + co: garibaldi a-line skirt 5 months ago
Hello! I’m about to make the Garibaldi skirt (view with pockets). As it seems to be quite fitted waist through to hips, can you tell me the waist to hip point distance (ie the vertical distance) that your patterns are drafted for? I know the “big” pattern companies use a distance of 9 inches. I am quite petite and would normally adjust this…[Read more]

I’m glad you like it! And yes, it’s probably a good idea to clip the side seams at the underarm a bit to help them lie flat. It will depend on your fabric, of course, but in general it will help. Thanks for asking!

@liesl I am struggling with the collar on the Yanaka Jacket. Please help! I can’t understand which parts on step 5 need to be seen together. I though it was just the 2 ends but it doesn’t Sot right when step 6 completed x

It sounds like you’re doing it right–the two ends of the collar (the part that sticks out) need to be sewn together, and then you’ll sew the neck seam. The important part is to clip into the inside corner so that the neck seam is the same length as the collar in Step 6. That way both edges will be the same length. I hope that helps! The…[Read more]

Hi Amanda
You’re talking about the bodice side seam that becomes the underarm capped sleeve seam, right?
Yes, I would cut a few little notches at the most curved part and then serge the seam allowances with that extra bit of give in the seam allowance.
Cheers,

I have almost finished my first Chicarita and am loving this make. Having sewn the bodice seams, I am tempted to clip the curve to help them lie flatter – should I?? The instructions don’t seem to suggest this.., I can serge them afterwards or use pinking shears (or I could just do this??)
Thanks for any help 🙂 -

Uff, I feel your pain! It’s really difficult to visualize your questions without a photo–can you possibly upload one to help me? We have several tutorials that I think can help, like this one: https://oliverands.com/community/blog/2018/08/how-to-raise-or-lower-a-dart.html
Yes, the two size blocks are different, but that doesn’t mean you can’t…[Read more]

Hello All:
Long time no see! The baby girl who brought me here is now 16! I might have to update that picture. I am not sure how that profile picture happened!
I have a gelato DRESS question.
I purchased the 16-30 range. I am petite and round!~. 🙂
I made a 16 with a slight lowering of neckline.
Here are my fit issues:
1) the extra…[Read more] - Load More
