Katherine replied to the topic Underwear! in the forum off topic 9 years ago
I made my first pair of underwear last night, using the Seamwork Geneva pattern. It was pretty easy (although I am slow – it took me almost 3 times as long as the pattern suggests).
There are a few things I’m going to change next time: it seems like the front end of the crotch lining pattern piece isn’t quite the right shape – on my pair, the…[Read more]

What about adding a pleat down the back to take up the excess, and add bias binding to both edges of the front. Before you turn and finish the binding you could sew both bindings together at what will become the outer-most fold so you get a seam down the center. Like this quick sketch.

Is the fabric plain or patterned? Can you add add a small front strip panel, just a cm or so, to join the front pieces?
Or can you sew the selvedges together?

Alright, I’m looking for creative ideas to salvage this dress. I cut out my pieces and then realized I cut the back on the fold & the front along the selvage. So if I switch them I’ll have a low back neckline & a very wide front neckline. What would you do?
I was planning to do the notched contrast neckline, so I have that fabric, though I’m…[Read more]

Hi @willknitformath I would think you have safely got enough fabric for the size 3T depending on how much length you add.
There was a gorgeous multi fabric Jumprope made a few years back, I will see if I can find it in the pool.
For me, I would consider a white collar and placket to complement the different fabrics.
It will eliminate pattern…[Read more] -

My niece has requested a giraffe dress with buttons on the front. It just so happens that I have some giraffe fabric and a matching polka dot in my stash – I have one yard of the dots and would like to only use one yard of the giraffes. Those of you who have made this before, do you think that’s enough fabric to do the bodice/sleeves in one…[Read more]

The briars are for Imogen @WithloveHeidi. I do not foresee ever fitting into this size range again, or at least not for the foreseeable future. The neck seems to be very big for some reason and they look really long, even though I didn’t cut the cropped version to check for length. I will send it down to her to try on with the other Tania culottes…[Read more]

Are the Briar tops for you or Imogen? I’ve been looking at the pattern and wondering if it would suit me (tall, short waisted, pear shaped) now I’m in the size range. Maybe made from a very drapey fabric.
I made myself a Jalie polo top. I am very impressed with Jalie’s placket. Not the fantastic Oliver and S instructions, but I got a very nicely…[Read more] -

I feel a bit lonely, talking to myself….
I have a small pile of white based things I am working through today. Being the first chance of actually getting to the machine in weeks – this is most unusual!
White things consisting of, the pants part of a teaparty playsuit, a white dotted voile hide and seek tunic, two Briar t shirts (Megan Nielsen…[Read more]

Tamara replied to the topic Neck facing puckering in the forum oliver + s: butterfly blouse + skirt 9 years ago
@magonomics did it work out well? I was having a look at the latest buterfly top and noticed I accidentally puckered it while sewing the facing down. I usually like to hamdstitch the facing. It seems to have a much better result for some reason.
