Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Eliminating center bodice bust dart on Rush Hour dress in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 2 weeks ago
Hello! The Dior dart on that style is quite short, so it could probably be moved in a variety of ways, but it also depends on how much “take-up” is in the dart (your bust size, the size you’re sewing, etc.). You could potentially ease the dart into the princess seam or move the princess seam slightly forward to absorb it. It may take a little…[Read more]

I have just made a first muslin of the Size 4 Rush Hour dress for A/B cup size. It fits fairly well, however I’m trying to achieve a very “uninterrupted by darts” look on center front bodice. Can I remove the bust dart on the center front bodice and accommodate it in the curve of the princess seam on side front pieces? Would it just be a sligh…[Read more]

Luanne started the topic Oh no! Camp shirt/Dress – wrong fabric?? in the forum liesl + co: camp shirt + dress 3 weeks ago
I need advice. I was reading something about sewing, when they suggested making the L&S Camp Shirt out of flannel. I lived that idea and immediately bought 5 yards of
Kaufman Mammoth in a gorgeous teal check to make a dress. This fabric is pretty heavy – in the 4-6oz/syd I think. Then I read the fabric recommendations – light, drapey, or crisp.…[Read more] -

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Waistband not fitting in the forum liesl + co: garibaldi a-line skirt 2 months ago
Hi ladies,
I assure you the waistband is the correct length–I’ve just checked it again. It’s slightly shorter than the waistband of the skirt because the skirt fabric gets eased into the waistband as you sew it. You might be experiencing problems because the skirt waist itself stretches a bit as you’re working with the fabric. If you’re having a…[Read more]

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Key Considerations for Altering a Yanaka Traditional Tattoo for a Full Bicep in the forum groip1 2 months ago
Hello! With the shoulder seam and the two gusset seams you’ll have plenty of places to add width, yes. I would suggest opening the seams on your muslin to see where the jacket “wants” to add space in order to determine the best spot. I hope that helps!

I am about to begin sewing a Yanaka Jacket in a lovely brocade. I expect that I will need to alter for my bicep. Should I do this in the underarm area of the gusset and the back part of the top sleeve?

I recently purchased this pattern and have the same issue. The waistband is too short and the markings do not line up.
I can easily adjust the waistband to fit, but at this point the problem should be corrected. Otherwise the pattern is well explained and fitting.

Hello! Thanks for your patience as I’ve been traveling. This should be a relatively easy fix. You’ll want to pin out the resulting fold in the fabric and blend the lines to make a smoother sleeve. The result will be sort of like this very crude drawing, with more of a curve to the sleeve. I hope that makes sense?

I’m thinking about making the Yanaka jacket to go over the Fira dress. Has anyone done this? Did they work well together?

Hello,
I’m working on a Yanaka jacket. Do you have any suggestions for an alteration to help prevent the sleeves from twisting?Attached are a few pictures of me in a muslin.
(Ignore the writing in the photos. Those are notes to fit the jacket for my mom. The sleeves do not twist for her. :))
Thank you!
