Well, I haven’t done it yet, but I have studied the pattern and fabrics. I am going to try an underlining technique. Two weeks ago when I was in Boston, I stopped in this lovely little fabric shop, Mercer’s Fabrics, and bought a beautiful light, semi-sheer cotton lawn and contrasting fabric. I found a solid cotton lawn in the same collection that…[Read more]

Absolutely! I adore double gauze. Be aware that it can ravel quite a bit, so take care when handling your cut fabric. The finished result is so, so lovely. I hope you have fun with it!

Would the lullaby pattern work with double gauze fabric? I’ve not worked with it before, but wondered how it would work…

Not to complicate matters, but I just made the Music Box jumper–the single-pleat version in a fine-wale corduroy, so I know it works well in a heavier fabric. Of course either the Tea Party or the Seashore would be lovely too. The Music Box buttons/snaps down the back if that appeals.

That’s always a good idea! I have some double gauze that I just can’t quite bring myself to cut into yet. It was expensive and I love it so much, I want to be absolute positive that I’m ready to use it.

Hi @littletrish, the placket for the center-front of the shirt is the same for all sizes, so it’s proportionally longer for the smaller sizes than the larger. Is that where you’re having trouble?

Yes, in fact sometimes I finish the lining seam allowances too. It depends on the fabric and how much I’m worried about ravelling. I hope that helps!

Aah OK thanks Liesl. So you do sometimes finish the outer fabric seams also in lined garments?

I am having trouble with the length of the packet on the 0-3 month size shirt. I ended up cutting another front piece and taking almost two inches off the packet. Did I miss something? Thankful I had extra fabric! I’m in love with this pattern, the pants are a fun, quick sew!

Ava, you can choose whether to finish them. I sometimes do, even on a lined dress, but it’s not absolutely necessary unless you have a fabric that ravels a lot. When a lining is open at the bottom, like on dresses, sometimes it’s still a good idea to finish the seam allowances. But it’s really a judgement call on your part.

So in the homestretch of the lined zipper dress. On page 145 top #6 it says to finish the lining seam allowances. But won’t these be sandwiched inside the outer fabric and lining so won’t be showing. So I’m assuming it was the same as the lined bodice where we don’t finish the seam allowance?
I didn’t get the impression that we were finishing…[Read more]

Hello Eliza, either of these lovely patterns work beautifully as a ‘jumper’. My experience is that the Seashore is a slightly narrower fitting than the Tea Party – especially when worn over a top. The pockets in the Seashore are a lovely way of adding some colour without creating problems for the colours of the tops you have. Certainly the design…[Read more]

Thankyou. I bought some yesterday that I don’t think will be too heavy. It has a lovely drape. I am going to make a couple of shirts out of lighter fabric first before I attempt this as the fabric was quite expensive.
