  • Cybele, I would either lengthen the bit that’s not the yoke using the picture I drew or lengthen within the yoke, using the same method. I can draw more pictures if nessassary 🙂

  • Hi ladies, thought I would chime in as I was looking for this exact thing to accommodate a cloth nappy in the sailboat pants.
I found a quick little blog with pictures for lengthening the rise of a pattern, but the pattern still…[Read more]

It looks like we will have to wait until the broadcast is finished – I can’t view it here in the US on bbc.co.uk or YouTube. I’ll have to schedule a little reminder to look it up later!

It is now two episodes into season two of the great british sewing bee, 8pm GMT on BBC 2 on Tuesday. I’m not sure how you get it overseas.
Applications are open for season 3 contestants, I can’t convince my mum to enter which is a shame!

  • Thank goodness for this forum. I am working on the birthday party and my exact question for hem facing was do you fold out the placket totally and match raw edges or do you leave the 1/2 ” folded. I admit I am confused when it says unfold the placket or such, because I never know does she mean COMPLETELY?? Or does she mean just that 1 1/4″…[Read more]

  • I tend to cut this one across the grain, from selvedge to selvage, because I find it easier 🙂

  • For the most case, it won’t matter if you cut the straps with the grain or across the fabric.
I made some silk ties for a dress once and cut one with and one across and the one across stretched a little.
I shouldn’t think you would have a problem with most fabrics you would use for the bear carrier.
    I hope that helps.

  • This is a very novice question, but when cutting out the fabric for the straps, is 42″ the width (selvage to selvage) or the length? Does it matter? Is there a standard rule about which dimension is listed first in a pattern?

  • GREAT! Glad to hear that it is not something to worry about! I suppose those contrasting colors covering the seam do look nice when a shirt is on a hanger, but hardly worth the effort if you don’t have it on display. 🙂 I used a regular rib knit for my raglan neckline and it came out just right!

  • Hi Pippi. I’ve been wondering about doing some cotton bias binding around the back neckline too. I’ve made many Field Trip T’s now and only one had a dreadful neckline and it was like that from the start (I blame too stretchy ribbing). None of the cotton/lycra ones have changed with time. So it seems Liesl’s right (as if she ever isn’t!) It’s…[Read more]

  • Pippi, that tape used to finish the neckline is really for aesthetic reasons–to cover the merrow/serger stitching. I suppose it might also stabilize the neck a bit too, but the fabric itself is mostly responsible for the neckline. A knit with good recovery (it bounces back to its original shape after being stretched) will do fine. Knits without…[Read more]
