Dori replied to the topic what fabrics do you use for a lining? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 6 years ago
To those of you who use cotton/muslin for lining–when it is washed, doesn’t it need extreme ironing? I can’t imagine that this would be a good option for that reason. Thoughts?

Please see the tutorial “How to Turn a Long Sleeve Shirt into Short Sleeves” by Shelley. This may help you figure out how to modify the sleeve pattern or the sleeve portion of the dress pattern.

Just wondering if any adjustments have been made to the pattern to address the sleeve hem problem some people (above)had?
Thanks! -

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply!
So, after a good night’s sleep, I decided I will make a muslin. I’m not on FB, but I do follow all your other channels.

Oof, so many questions! So it sounds like you don’t need your first set of questions answered since you’ve already decided on a size. To answer your question about length, be sure to compare front and back from the bottom of the armhole since the yoke wraps around to the front by a bit. If you’ve shortened front and back by the same amount you…[Read more]

Something else. I pribted out size 2 now and put together the pieces. I’ve shortened the front piece and back piece by 3 1/5″. Now, if I eyeball the back with the yoke and the front, by matching the shoulder line and taking into account the seam allowance on each piece, I get a longer back by almost 2″.
The question is, do I need to alter the…[Read more]

I foolishly printed out a size 10, wanting to make a more relaxed fit shirt, like in Liesl’s recent summer shirt post, just to figure out that I was actually a size 0 according to the size table :((
So, before cutting the fabric, can you please advise me on what to do next in order to get the shirt I want?
I’m an A/B cup and petite. 32″ in bust,…[Read more]

I just use my ordinary straight stitch foot for those seams. I just checked the post, and I think you’re referring to the edgestitching foot? I mentioned in the post that you can use it if you have trouble with straight stitching. With a little practice you really don’t need it, but it can be handy.

Sewing for Yourself 6 years agoOk, you’re looking for more like a funnel neck. You could measure the neck and cut a tube/rectangle to be the same length as the neckline. That’s where I’d start.

Sewing for Yourself 6 years agoPartially it does (the hood is made up of 3 pieces, instead of one). For the neck, I’ve attached a couple of images of what I’m aiming for.

Sewing for Yourself 6 years agoI would love to be able to make a high neck hoodie, so that the hood closes up higher (like a small collar), using the Lisette for Butterick B6386 sewing pattern. Any advice on how to do that?
I already tried something on a pull-over hoodie and it turned out so badly I had to completely redo the hood and give up the idea. It simply didn’t work…[Read more]

Bought the classic shirt pattern and now it’s time to start 🙂
But before, I’m just curious about the seam finishing. I have recently become a fan of the faux flat felled seam and also read your tutorial on it. In one of your images, you captured a satin stitch foot on the fabric. Did you actually use that when sewing the seam? It might make…[Read more]
