Agreed, or you could go the reverse route and start with the large pattern and use the Fit for Real People book to help you adjust the body of the shirt to a larger size. To me that seems like the easier route, but either way would work.

If it’s just the shoulder width you want to change, I’d probably try a narrow shoulder adjustment on the size x-large yoke to get to to the width you need. Then you don’t have to mess with trying to get it to match up to the x-large body parts.

I would love to make an adjustment to the All Day shirt for a better fit for my body. Ideally, I would use the “large” yoke with the “x-large” body parts. My shoulders are not very broad–at least I’d rather say that than to say that I have slightly too much girth in my torso for my frame. Is there a simple way of making this adjustment? I’m…[Read more]

I think I figured out what I did wrong. I seem to have cut my pattern on the line that is meant to cut out the placket. I think I can figure out how to do it over.

I am doing this shirt as my first ever button-down and am having trouble with the collar. My collar stand is significantly longer than the shirt neckline, and I also feel that the shirt neckline is going to be quite tight if it buttons at all. (I need it to button I will be wearing a bow tie with it).
I am wondering if I did the front placket…[Read more] -

Hi,
I’m making a Classic shirt, but I would like to remove the back pleats and add back darts, just like on the Recital shirt. Can I substitute the Recital shirt back for the Classic shirt back? I seem to remember reading that these patterns were related. Thanks,

Thanks, I do have that pattern so I will have a look at it.

Do you have the Jump Rope Dress pattern? That shows the easy way to do a cuff where the sleeve has parallel sides.
Essentially a cuff is just a really deep single fold hem and then the folded edge is turned up again.
I would straighten out the sides of the sleeve to make them closer to parallel, then add a deep hem allowance with the slight angle…[Read more] -

I was wondering if there is a tutorial to change the classic shirt sleeve to a short sleeve with cuffs. I found the tutorial to change it to short sleeves but I am not sure how to add a fold up cuff

Last weekend I made a pair of Playtime leggings, which was only my second time ever sewing with knits. I was feeling very smug – I read the pattern instructions which said to use a zigzag or a stretch stich, so I pulled out my sewing machine manual and found a good stretch stitch, remembered to put in a ball point needle, and did some test…[Read more]

It could just be that the pattern piece didn’t digitize perfectly symmetrically and we didn’t catch it. Sorry about that. I’d suggest that you just fold it in half and trim it to be symmetrical. I’ll check the file and issue a correction when I get a chance.

Hi Natalie, sorry for the late reply, I’ve been trying to find a moment to pull out my pattern.
I have the paper printed pattern and you’re absolutely right, the pocket pattern pieces for both views A&B are 1/8th of an inch longer on one side. (Size doesn’t matter for the pocket pattern pieces)
I certainly didn’t notice that when I sewed the…[Read more] -
