I love the dress too. I see lots of flattering things for someone of my shape and size. EG: a v neck, even with the tab is flattering for shorter people who don’t have lots of room between neck/chin and chest. The pleats at the chest should hopefully accommodate the double D girls. And yet it is “dressy” enough for work. The waist at the…[Read more]

I love the dress with the cross-over bodice! I’m going to get that. And the princess-seamed top with the trousers is very nice. Love that it comes with different cup sizes. I checked it out on the Butterick site to see the back view, and it’s great.

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 10 years agoI Like both of those. I have a children’s corner one that is just like the Anna Maria, except it has smocking. I really love Hillary with all those sleeve options. I will really need to find some less expensive similar fabric to mock up various sleeves. I’m finding it difficult to visualize how I want the fabric to behave.

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 10 years agoHmmmm. The Children’s Corner, Hillary makes a “V” for the back closure and has some sweet angel sleeves. Still thinking….

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 10 years agoSome time ago, I had the honour of arranging accommodation and a venue for classes given by Gail Doane and Susan O’Connor. The duo were doing a sort of “Thelma and Louise” tour across North America in Gail’s suburban. Lucky me, they chose to put Toronto on their route.
I got to spend a whole week taking classes with Gail and what a wonderful…[Read more] -

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 10 years agoWhat about Anna Maria Horner’s Paper Fan Dress bodice with a beautifully full skirt? It has a crossover buttoned back bodice.

Well that was a well kept surprise! I’m intrigued by the dress too. I like the pants actually. It’s refreshing to see something not skinny. In linen they would make a nice travel wardrobe. I also kind of like that jacket. It’s so retro! I’m finally starting to see the charm in this 80s revival. And,it looks like the one worn by the 2014 girl of…[Read more]

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 10 years agoShe is 4, so 4 1/2 for the wedding. She’s pretty tall and as the youngest, quite grown up for her age.
@sarvi, that is such a truly excellent idea I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of it before! I am actually kicking myself in the behind right now. It would also help with the photos.
@reeni, in theory, I would like to be inspired by the brides…[Read more]

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 10 years agoOh, what pretty fabric and SO perfect for an Irish wedding! I was drawn to that same photo from your Pinterest board as well. One suggestion I’d make is to make the underlayer a slightly darker shade than the overlayer. With white on white I find that sometimes I can’t see the pretty details as well as I’d like.

Perfect, I was so hoping you’d done a tute for it. This will be very useful for the baby girls in my life.
