Thanks for all the tips.
In the meantime now someone in the house was trying to be helpful with the laundry and put it in the wash and dryer, so I guess that is done 🙂 The good news is it shrunk only a tiny bit so it still fits the smaller one just fine. And it did seem to soften up.

I am new to the discussion posts, but I have posted a few photos to FLickr (Linusknits)of recent (and not so recent) creations. I am currently sewing a badminton dress as a nightgown, based upon recent recommendation in a discussion thread. I spent an hour researching vintage patterns, then came upon a recent threat about summer night gowns. I am…[Read more]

Just taking a shot in the dark, as I know O+S are loved worldwide, I was wondering if anyone here is from Toronto or nearby? We’ll be traveling up there in June.

@roundtheworldgirl I bumped up an old thread that might help.
But, yeah, I want a coverstitch machine.
Best wishes to everyone who’s having a crappy time. -

Bumping up this thread…
What’s been mostly working well fir me over the last year of sewing lots of knit clothes is this:
1. Woolly Nylon in the bobbin
2. Having a second bobbin casing with tension backed way off so the bobbin thread really does zig zag fully
3. Using the walking foot to get over side seam bumpsNone of that means I don’t want…[Read more]

Boy I can relate to this. When I was sewing for my kids I made what I enjoyed and they would wear. There was never an issue of them having too many clothes, not until the one and only daughter became a teenager and then I just let her make her wardrobe decisions. She loved hunting down fashions at yard sales, thrift shops and wardrobe closets (she…[Read more]

I am always very grateful for pretty hand-me-downs 😉
I typed a great long post and the internet ate it but, in a nutshell, if you are worried about too many posh dresses, sew the school shirts.
Use beautiful fine cotton, Liberty facings and pearl buttons.
I enjoy sewing Hugo’s work clothes almost as much as Trixies pretty frocks as I use lovely…[Read more] -

I suspect if you made them yourself they may stand up to the wear and tear better!

I have a coverstitch machine and love it. I’m still struggling a little to always get a super stretchy hem, but I always do a test run on the fabric scraps. I try and use a hump jumper and this decreases the skipped stitches over thick seams.
I use it for so much more than just stretchy hems! I hem wovens, use it for perfectly parallel top…[Read more] -
