Haha! No, I meant I lack the skill do French seams as well as you do! But I couldn’t resist mentioning your other favorite topic, hehe.

I made this recently and found those steps a little OTT. You don’t need to stop at the dot, just pin the straps in and sew all the way around. I finished the yoke lining with Hong Kong seams I think and covered all the raw edges. Still, the finished product is lovely and a huge hit.

My daughter wants one like that too. Really, it’s simple – just eliminate the waist band from garden party and you’ll have the same dress/tunic. The waist band is only top stitched on. Just skip it.

I just snuck into sleeping baby girls room to find the pink Liberty blouse I made last spring. Of course it’s all French seams and it’s lovely. I lined the yokes. The pattern didn’t call for it? Strange, it’s much easier and more comfortable to line a yoke.
Linen really does need good finishes. You could also use flat felled seams or a…[Read more]

I believe I was the person Nicole mentioned above — at any rate I am the lucky recipient of an exquisite silk dress fitting that description. Nicole is right, while the bound seams at the armscye are gorgeous to behold (and very comfortable on that particular dress because of the fit) oftentimes the most practical solution for that specific seam…[Read more]

I can’t believe I pondered this question for over a year! Yesterday, I dug some lightweight chambray out of my stash and gave it a try. The French seams look like they’re working out so far. Lining the yokes might be neater. Its a really sweet little blouse.

I’m soooo close to finished with a Music Class blouse. I got the pattern a couple years back, and I’ve been a little scared of the blouse. But this weekend, I pulled out some fabric from my stash and pushed through it. It was not hard. I just have hems and buttonholes left.
I love it! I think there are more of these in my future.

No sewing today but eventually this week will have me finishing off the corduroy puppet show dress I had started, but not before I do some tidying up in the sewing room first. I tend to get messy when I create!
Then it is gritting the teeth and getting into “ball dress” making mode. And then I can get back to some fun baby sewing again.

I have been tweaking some things with our caching setup behind the scenes here over the past week in an effort to make the site faster. One change we made did not end up making the site faster and in fact seemed to slow it down. So, as of an hour ago, we have reverted that change.
One other change that was made has to do with the main forums…[Read more]

Hello to all,
Where is that blog post? The dress in the picture looks so… I don’t even know how to say it in english, so angelic and sweet and innocent.
Who don’t want to sew that? I do, as soon as possible. I notice some differences between the pattern and the dress in the picture but I think that the easier way is just to omit the waistband…[Read more] -

Is it a home-sewn dress? Or a commercial product? The original image comes from an Etsy page selling the little bow in the girl’s hair, so I don’t think that whoever made or manufactures that dress can see your question.
Here’s a crinkled gauze that’s inexpensive and might work — give it a try and see what you come up with! Good…[Read more]
