@LightningMcstitch, that would be amazing! I have it in the car to remind me about seltbelts – and it goes off if you have a heavy bag of shopping on the seat.
The most recent stupid thing has been sewing whilst ill! Don’t do it especially if you are sewing with napped fabric. I attached the frill of the carousel dress upside down so the nap is…[Read more]

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Making a sleeveless gallery tunic in the forum liesl + co: gallery tunic + dress 10 years ago
Typically a sleeveless pattern has a much higher armhole than a pattern with sleeves, so you’ll want to raise the armhole when you try this. You’ll probably also need to do a little work to eliminate gaping at the armhole, so I’d definitely recommend making a muslin if you’re going to try this. But if the pattern fits properly across the chest you…[Read more]

I don’t mean to comment so much on this feed, just a lot of my sewing escapades seem to result in mistakes!
I have tonight made more errors on the playtime leggings than there are pattern pieces 😉
I’m quickly (always the first mistake, speed spoils everything) trying to run up two pairs of leggings for the baby ready to jet off on our…[Read more]

Sewing for Yourself 10 years agoHAHA. Now I’ll have to post a draft of my first try, since it’s become a project of collaboration. I’ll try both a knit (from the Liesl tee) and a woven (from Diplomat) to compare!
When posting that link, I hadn’t even realized that I could by a PDF version of the Diplomat dress. How modern!

Sewing for Yourself 10 years agoOh goodness, I didn’t even think about the Diplomat, what a great idea! I think it would be easy to modify!

Sewing for Yourself 10 years agoAnd it looks like the Lisette 1878 would be a great start, too, since there is no seaming below the bust (in front), and in back, I could simply release the darts, and shorten the zipper. What fun to explore this idea. Thanks for the idea; I really hadn’t even thought of starting with a top, which really makes it so…[Read more]

Oh how fun! I wasn’t sure of the material you were going for. Maybe a modified Portfolio? Similar A line but you could ultimately omit the pockets and then size out?

Sewing for Yourself 10 years ago@rpankow what a lovely idea, to start with a top!!! I want to make one out of woven (linen, perhaps), as well, so I’ll peruse some of the older lisette fitted tops to see if any oblige. Thanks!

After seeing your photo, which is a gorgeous top by the way, possibly altering the metro tee to have long sleeves and to make it swing out per Liesl’s tutorial on how to alter the raglan tee to an A-line as seen here? http://oliverands.com/community/blog/2014/02/customizing-the-raglan-the-a-line-t-shirt.html
The metro tee automatically…[Read more]

I’d like to make my next Gallery tunic a sleeveless version. The last time I left the sleeves off of a shirt pattern (not a Liesl + Co), it ended up being too tight in the underarm area. Any tips to avoid this? Maybe it was just that pattern, but thought I’d ask here to see what you all had to say! Thanks 🙂

Sewing for Yourself 10 years agoWell, looking at the Gallery dress, it seem like the easiest to alter. When looking at the design sketch, it is the closest, I believe. Any other thoughts?

Sewing for Yourself 10 years ago@MaryC — I really like the fitting technique of Nancy Zieman, as she helps you find the pattern that will fit your armscye (since it’s a pain to adjust), and then do alterations that are easier (bust/waistline). Liesl did a post about it: http://www.sewlisette.com/blog/2011/06/two-resources-to-help-you-find-your-correct-size/ My library carries…[Read more]

Now there’s only 1 Oliver+S skirt pattern left for us to sew! This week we sewed up the Badminton Skort and Dress. Yep, another layering duo. We added sleeves to the dress, and we’d love to know what you think of them. And NOW it’s the last week to link up your own Oliver+S sewing creations and enter the Rafflecopter giveaway. Because we all…[Read more]

Sewing for Yourself 10 years agoI haven’t sewn every Liesl + Co/ Lisette pattern, yet, though I own them all. I’m really, really wanting a trapeze/tent dress, super flowy. I’m wondering, from any of y’all have sewn a pattern and thought it would be an easy flat-pattern change to make it trapeze/tent, any suggestions??
