  • If you do decide to taper the legs, the one piece of quick advice I’d give you is to taper equally from the inseam and the outseam. You can narrow any pattern this way (or widen it, for that matter) if you keep that in mind. And yes, sew the rise and then pin the seams to adjust as needed.

  • I’m thinking about making this for a Build-A-Bear bear my dd has fallen in love with. (Its name is Chestnut, its gender changes hourly, it’s starting preschool this week, which will be a nice change from its recent round of medical emergencies.) Any tips on altering the Tea Party Dress for other species?

  • sorry I didn’t see this sooner but i do have some advice for making sure the sleeves mirror… make them at the same time, exactly the same gathering but one face up and one face down (lining side up). Tack the overlap in place to make sure.
When you set them in, just flip one “tulip” so the correct attachment side is up.

  • I would do a test pair for her to run around in in the summer — in a similar fabric with a generous side seam.
It has been my unfortunate (?) experience that fresh air and summer eating make them sprout and mommy-made uniforms I had measured the kids for in the spring are just barely wearable by winter.
That said, the Sketchbook shorts are cut a…[Read more]

Love that Kate (at least I think it is her who chooses their outfits?) has a vintagey sensibility, or is at least very aware of Diana’s taste and the visual significance of memories… as when George wore the same blue shorts-suit Will did for his Buckingham balcony debut recently. She’s on her own for Charlotte tho… I don’t recall any…[Read more]

I have the two big kids at home unwell so not much is happening in the sewing room at present. Its a shame because I signed up for kcw and it starts today!

I ended up cutting two more parachute polos out yesterday instead of the intended drafting of above said patterns. I hope to include these in the projects intended for this week.

    Has anyone…[Read more]

Finally I sewed along! Love the skirt, the pleats are so simple but really classy. E started potty training last week so this is perfect for her to get on and off. Sewn in spotty fabric to match her chicken pox 😉

Oh fencing! My eldest wants to learn but we live in the sticks and there is no instruction anywhere!

I am almost complete with the parachute polo. Today is perfect sewing weather (raining outside) so I intend to settle in for the day but probably not sew, just tidy up a bit and cut things instead.

I need to look at a possible rearrangement of my…[Read more]

I finished the Badminton Skort! I love it! I’m washing fabric for a second one now, although I won’t get much done tomorrow because my oldest has a birthday and a fencing tournament.

Tina, I think the afterschools will be adorable in pink!

I am making the ice cream dress for my granddaughter I want to add 1 to 2 inches to the length. I am making view A. Would you add to the length to the bottom of the dress top #3 or to the bottom of dress bottom #4? Any other suggestion?
    Thanks
