@dubhels2003 are you able to laugh about the experience yet?
I am making the playtime dress at them moment. I went to baste the two backs together and discovered the bodice was totally TWISTED🙄! Nothing a little unpicking couldn’t make right but, it has been a while since I did something silly like that so thought I would share. I am being a…[Read more]

I just made my first set of these jammies and added piping. I wish I had remembered the piping when I made the pockets. I put it on both sides of the facing before attaching it to the top, at the sleeve and leg edges (attached to bias binding first), and between the waistband and the shorts (attached to waistband first).

Tamara replied to the topic Pattern layout in the forum oliver + s: sunny day shorts 9 years ago
Hi @claire123 may I ask, are you working with a print or solid fabric? If a print, is the design going in one direction at all?
All these little details help to make the best choice for laying out your pattern.
The ladies above have given very sound advice. Generally, you fold your fabric in half so the two grainlines (the woven edges often…[Read more]

The layout diagram should tell you which way, but usually, fold right sides together, thus lay pattern pieces right side up on the wrong side of the fabric.
I’ve got a pair of these ready to sew, waiting by my machine.

Claire, I’ve seen in other patterns that you should fold your fabric right sides together for double thickness, right side up for single thickness.
Hope it helps!
It is a great pattern. So easy, and such a good final result! -

I’m struggling to understand which way up to have my pattern on the fabric. Should I put the pattern on the wrong or right side of the fabric ?

I made this top and normaly have to do a FBA on all my dreses and tops but on this pattern I did not have to and love the fit. I guess because of the knit fabric? I am very happy with the over all fit of this one. I hope go get pictures posted soon but I still have yet to get my skirt sewn to match.

Hi @carries12345 I am very glad you managed to get the sba sorted because the bustro is such a lovely dress. I made this for daugther’s interview to her new high school last year and it turned out beautifully.
In terms of your question on blending, what I would do is first measure your front waist and compare this measurement to the pattern to…[Read more]

Hi, after many sewing fails due to bust issues, I finally decided to use this pattern to learn how to properly do a SBA. Who better than to teach me than Liesl, right? 🙂
I’ve completed the pattern piece alteration and taped it back to the skirt piece. Since I did a 1/2″ SBA, my skirt piece is now wider than my bodice piece by 1/2″. The…[Read more]

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 9 years agoI was all prepared to be amazed by this picture but I for some reason cannot see it!😕 I am sure you did a superb job nonetheless. My daughter’s confirmation isn’t until November next year so I guess it is my turn to look about. We don’t do veils though and I am guessing there will be specifications as to how much of the “more” we are allowed – I…[Read more]

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 9 years agoso the angst with regard to a magnum opus was not unfounded, but i am overall pleased with the result. I drafted a princess-seamed full circle skirt with long sleeves.
Silk dupioni lined in cotton voile, with embroidered organza sleeves and veil. I bought silk organza and was going to do the embroidery myself, but chanced upon some leftover from…[Read more] - Load More
