Tamara replied to the topic Making a t shirt dress from the metro-t in the forum liesl + co: metro t-shirt 9 years ago
Hi @cammipatterson what a great starting project!
I haven’t made an above the knee t shirt dress but I have used the metro pattern to make a t shirt maxi dress for my teenage daughter.
What I did was measure where she wanted her dress to finish and then I made the adjustment to the pattern by adding the amount of length and cutting through the…[Read more]

The other fabulous ladies up thread have great advice! I’d concur with trying a sway back adjustment and lower the waistline on the skirt just a bit, pinning it out so you can see how much you need. The side view looks like your side seams are canting forward just a smidge and that should help correct the drag lines and the angle. I’m working on a…[Read more]

Hi all, my name is Cammi and I’m new to the forums. I’ve followed Oliver and S for awhile and am finally working toward sewing some of these beautiful patterns! I’ve just made the metro-t for my college-age daughters and they loved it! Has anyone made it into an above the knee t-shirt dress? Can you give me pointers please?

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 9 years agoAgreed! I have to go back and search for that sailboat top… But yes you certainly are correct, who knew that pockets would be perfect to smock on? Gathering gives the clue.
And of course there are more than just the counterchange and geometric/ English smocking.
I haven’t yet tried using ribbon but want to one day.

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 9 years agoI have added smocking to the bubble shorts, the garden party dress, tje fairy tale dress, and the sailboat top. I am working on a smocked popover dress as well. I think anything really could have a bit of smocking added to it.

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 9 years ago@sewgirl23 if you look at the line of the style of garment, it will give you an indication of where the smocking can go. I have used smocking on the carousel dress, the school photo dress and the school days jacket, not to mention the croquet dress.
For a motif the carousel dress would be perfect. You could also do a picture smocked panel and…[Read more]

I think the 2+2 would be gorgeous. Just under the tie, instead of the tab.
ASM Blue did a gorgeous Ice Cream blouse. I would use gingham, so I could stitch the squares, rather then pleat.I still love French knots.
I think simple smocking looks cleaner and more modern.

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 9 years ago@motherof5 I’ve always wanted to get into smocking, and am just trying to figure out which patterns I could adapt to have a bit of a smocked motif! I did so much embroidery in the 80’s and 90’s, I’m the same way when I see fine needlework.

Hi @kirstylilian whilst my original question has already been answered, I don’t see why you couldn’t contact Oliverands by email regarding your dilemma. I also suspect this question has also been asked before, or was it you? I’m sure I remember reading about this before….
Anyway, if you have the printed pattern, surely there would be some sort…[Read more]

Is it possible to contact Oliver & s directly? I’m not sure if they can help me, but I just got out my paper pattern for the fairy tale dress which I bought years ago, and I only have the second half of the instructions. I’m hoping they may be able to email me the first part perhaps? Or do I need to buy the whole pattern again? Thanks
