Andrea, have no fear. The Garment District is near Penn Station, and there are lots of people in the neighborhood with suitcases.
Happy shopping!

I will be in the city next week shopping for fabric. This will be my first experience fabric shopping there and I cannot be more excited. I plan on bringing home a good bit of lace and trim. My question is, will I look silly lugging around a small suitcase to stash my purchased goods in? I plan on making the most of my time and I don’t want the…[Read more]

I can answer the last part of your question, but I see this question is 2 months old so maybe you have already figured it out. I am not an expert sewer by any means but I followed the same directions for the internal neck facing with a square neck line and it worked for me. I was also nervous because the illustration is not for a square neckline…[Read more]

Haha, not creepy! Thanks for the tip. I only use flickr for posting to the O+S group, so I don’t really know what I’m doing. I just noticed that several times, my pictures have sat for days as the first one in the group but never made it to the website, but as soon as someone else posted, it went to the website. I don’t really care about being…[Read more]

@aplazarus, I REALLY hope this doesn’t come across as creepy/stalkerish! I only investigated it because I had the exact same problem/question when I first posted some photos to Flickr. But assuming there’s consistency with your username between here and Flickr, your photo in the O+S photostream only appears for me if I’m logged in to my Flickr…[Read more]

The photo to highlight from the Flickr group is selected at random from the most recent photos posted. It updates every so often to choose a new photo if there are more recent ones available than the one that is being featured currently. And, yes, the photo does need to be public.

Thanks. My pictures are public, but maybe there’s some other setting that’s not right. Oh well.

As far as I know, no, but it does have to be public. And I know I’ve had absolutely no luck in making my photos on Flickr public, possibly because when I set up my account I made private the default. But even trying to undo that at time of upload, all my pictures seem to be private.

Out of curiosity, how is the picture for the website chosen from the Flickr group? Does the poster have to be preapproved or something?

Hi, Amy
I have not done very much sewing in knits but I did sew this pattern in a stretchy knit and found a couple of tricks useful. WRT the buttonholes, I interfaced both the placket areas, i.e. bodice side and the lining side and I added another stabilizing piece of woven non-slippery ribbon (or twill tape) to both inside placket areas as my…[Read more]

I’m pretty new to knits (hopscotch shirt several times), and am trying to do the knit version of the playtime dress. I’m having difficulty attaching the bodice and dress. The layers are slipping and bunching and catching in the seam. I’m using a lightning stretch stitch (that is a nightmare to unpick), and my walking foot. I also had difficulty…[Read more]

I’ve certainly seen people make this coat in cotton laminates. They will be water repellent but have more drape than a home Dec weight outdoor furnishing fabric. However, I think the pattern lends itself quite well to a fabric that has minimal drape. It will be quite boxy but that can be fine, just be aware that it may be a beast to sew – setting…[Read more]

Has anyone made this as a rain coat from indoor/outdoor home decorator fabric? There are some nice prints. I’m wondering if the drape of the material and water repellancy would work for a rain coat.
