      Yanaka Jacket
Reviewed by Edie Kozak on 10/16/2024
I was specifically looking for a jacket with a stand-up collar and this one intrigued me. Since I am long-waisted, I lengthened the jacket by 3 inches. The challenges for me were the underarm gusset and the collar, matching the "corner" points. These are certainly not conventional steps to assemble and it may not be for a beginner. But I mastered the jacket and it's fantastic. I've gotten many compliments. I have since ordered another Oliver + S jacket!

Really love the style of this jacket and so happy it turned out. Since I never made a jacket I could have used a video as it took me a bit of time to understand the paper instructions. I will definitely make this jacket again. Thank you for such a lovely pattern. Also, I am what you call petite and the jacket style is quite flattering to shorter individuals. Thanks again 😊

I made this pattern in the size I thought was correct according to my measurements however it was probably 2 sizes too small. It was even too small for a friend who is much smaller than me. I rechecked the measurements and did have them correct. I am a very experienced sewer.

Beautiful Pattern but error in draft of D cup
Reviewed by Pamela Conde ( Verified Buyer) on 10/25/2023
I loved this beautiful jacket. It sewed together well except the D cup pattern was drafted incorrectly in both the front piece and the facing. Fortunately my first attempt was a toile and I had extra fabric to recut the affected pieces. When drafting the pieces, the additional length of 1-1/2” necessary for the addition of the dart was omitted. When I attempted to connect the front to the back, the front piece was 1-1/2” too short. The facing piece was affected as well. Once I recut those pieces everything went very smoothly. I am so thankful that I made a toile instead of immediately sewing it with my expensive wool!

The pattern is ultra stylish, true to size and goes together without a hitch. I used handkerchief linen and used the interfacing suggested. The collar really “popped.” I plan to make it again.

      Beautiful Easy Yanaka
Reviewed by Sue Cochrane ( Verified Buyer) on 01/07/2023
I purchased the Yanaka in your pre christmas sale, obviously as a pdf as I live in Australia & needed (wanted) it immediately! It printed out & put together easily, all marks very clearly stated. The jacket went together so easily, the instructions are very clear & it was a much simpler sew than I initially envisioned. Dead set simple! Even the 'corners' were easier than I thought it would be. I made it in a heavy-ish denim as a toile & it turned out so well that it was a definite wearable outfit. I loved it, so much so when I lost it on a trip interstate at the airport I was devastated. Another make on the way! I made 2 alterations, shortened the sleeves by 5cms, lowered the collar by 2cms as I know I have a short neck & arms. The fact that it had the 'D' cup allowance is brilliant, I did spend a long time checking measurements to make sure I was cutting out the right size for me. It was perfect. In summary, very well drafted & superb instructions, thank you.

I made this jacket in a prequilted fabric, and I omitted the interfacing. I finished the seams with bias tape that I made out of a beautiful cotton. I love the fit and the unique style! It was easy to sew, but took a lot of time due to finishing each seam. The fit is true to size. I have plans to make it again!

      Yanaka Jacket
Reviewed by Denise Kerner ( Verified Buyer) on 04/19/2021
Sweet, simple, and even at my age, sexy! I'll definitely make this jacket again. I used brocade, which didn't give me a lot of wiggle room, but the eye-catching fabric took the jacket to "the next level." My only suggestion is that, If you have heavy arms, or muscles, make a muslin of the sleeves before you cut the fashion fabric. Like every other part of this jacket, the sleeves are (pleasantly) close-fitting.

The best thing I've ever made
Reviewed by Mindy Roberts ( Verified Buyer) on 03/28/2021
I love this jacket! It fits perfectly and looks very classy. Plus - I sewed this on a day that I'd gotten 2 hours sleep the night before. Despite being nearly blind from lack of sleep, the pattern was easy to understand and everything came together just right. It's great that the sizes are on separate layers - it takes so much frustration out of cutting the fabric. This is a fool proof and beautiful pattern. Thank you Liesl & Co!

      Great jacket and easy pattern
Reviewed by Sue ( Verified Buyer) on 03/08/2021
I made a Yanaka jacket with a stretch crepe. The fabric was too thin and stretchy by itself so I underlined it with satin. I made a muslin first, which made it clear that I should NOT use the pattern with darts (if you are not sure about this - the muslin is well worth the time). I also took the time to finish the visible edges with bias binding (and I'm very glad I did - it looks really classy). I did NOT finish inside the sleeves this way because it would have been too bulky. The result is a beautiful jacket that I plan to wear to the office. Liesel & Co. patterns are so clear and easy to follow, any adventurous beginner like me can end up with beautiful results.

I made the Yanaka jacket in a navy blue stretch denim with silver motif. My bridge gals loved it and I love it. Very sharp looking pattern. Many possibilities for future jackets with different fabrics. One of the best patterns that I have come across and I have been sewing garments for many years. Thank you, keep on designing wonderful patterns like this one.

      Great casual jacket
Reviewed by Jean Hansen on 03/06/2021
I bought the pattern to make in brocade, but decided to test it in a heavy cotton print first. It has come out wonderfully and I'm just finishing it today. I'm 5' 2" and weigh 120 pounds and used size 10 C-cup. The jacket fits perfectly! I agree with another reviewer that 5/8" seams would work better as I use a serger for the finishing. Also, when I make the jacket in brocade, I plan to line it. When I finish this one, I'll send you a picture.

Outcome- very cute jacket reminiscent of tuxedo jacket. Well proportioned for petite figure. I am 5'3" and weigh 100#. I made a size 6 based on the measurements provided. It seems a little snug under the arms .I made the option without the dart. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. If I make it again, I will line it. It took me 2 days to sew bias tape on the many seams. I also prefer a 5/8" seam allowance as I normally finish seams with flat fell method or French seams.
