Nicole replied to the topic Upholstery Fabric for Jacket? in the forum
Sewing for Yourself 10 years agoHi Lisa.
I love love love that pattern and your fabric choice is gorgeous but…. may I suggest you definitely request a sample?
I regularly run the gauntlet of unusual fabric choices but the description does say heavy and there is no mention of apparel at all.
You would also have some pattern matching to do with the plaid.
Also, it is dry clean…[Read more] -

Thank you @needlewoman, she is beyond thrilled.
@ann-maree, I just took my time, and used a very fine sharp needle. Zara would like a peplum top made from the remnant but I told her I need a break before tackling that cloth again.
Thank you!
Trixie was happily playing under my cutting table so I cut out a Butterick Liberty shirt and denim…[Read more]

I finished a pair of Named Alexandrina Peg trousers, for Zara, in velvet backed apparel vinyl. It stretched, it slipped but the finished garment has produced far more joy then is decent for an item of clothing.
Total Rock Star moment.

Oh it got a thousand times worse. But not mistakes. Not enough fabric to cut the new sleeve. Literally missing an inch x three. The website only sells in yard increments. So I hacked up a sleeve with a seam in it. Matched up the pattern on the fabric pretty well. No thrilled but what can you do.
Sewed that up pretty quickly. Then I went to…[Read more]

Oh @dubhels2003 that made me snort laugh!
But I’ve actually wondered about that; what does one do when the iron on interfacing is scrunched?
@cybele727 I have to admit I was surprised to see this thread refreshed with someone else’s name on it! 🙂 but then, there you were after all. I was cutting a swing set top last night from tiny scraps and was…[Read more] -

We should retitle this thread, Stupid things Jennifer does… LOL.
So, I cut a carousel and it is sewing along beautifully. Love the seams, love the opportunities (in my head) for color blocking, french seams, edge stitching (to blend or to color pop), basically goes together like a dream.
I am at the attach the sleeve portion. I pin and…[Read more]

I have to finish the jumprope. All I have are buttons and holes. I get nervous at this point. I always run 2-3 buttonholes on scrap before I do the garment. I had a machine that always chewed up the holes and ruined clothes at the last stage. So even though I have a new machine and it has shown no problems, Pavlov’s dog is always nervous when…[Read more]

@dubhels2003 I thought of you yesterday as I saw a local art space that was being transformed to look like the scene from Alice in Wonderland where Alice meets the knitting sheep and they go boating together (one of my favourite bits for the rowing puns).
The artist is painting a beautiful life size mural on the walls of the art space. It would…[Read more] -

I went with my normal L&C size, too. I found it just right. I am a D and skipped the FBA, first by accident, but it worked out well so I didn’t bother with it the other times, either. I suggest a muslin, also.

Is art gallery an interlock, pique, or jersey type?

Hi Jeanette, I’ve only muslined this one,but I went with my regular size an added an FBA. There is a looser silhouette, but I don’t think it will hang right without the FBA. What have other folks experienced? It’s not the answer you’re looking for, but my advice is to make a muslin.

All the Art Gallery Knits have matching woven as well. I really hope Liesl has another Moda knit line though.
