Good point by Cat75 and who wants to go mucking around with altering crotch rises and seat length, not me.

I concur
I over altered the Field Trip cargoes for my daughter and lost a lot of hip room , they are okay but it did spoil the patten some what
I did lengthen the Art Museum trousers for my tall skinny girl very successfully adding length to the waist and the ankle
( I just checked , size 7 with a length of 12)
I guess as long as the hips are…[Read more] -

From memory they’re a straight-ish leg so you would get away with length added to the hem.
I’d be nervous about sizing down 3 sizes from his age. The spot where these pants are the slimmest is the lower hips / upper thigh area and they would have the potential to really pull across the crotch/upper thigh if you went too small.
My son had very…[Read more] -

I just altered my son’s tap costume. The pants were so large that the crotch was at the knees and they fell down to his ankles. It has to be some of the worst sewing I’ve ever done, but to do it right would mean taking apart the entire waist band and zipper, and moving it all down. If I raised the crotch too high from the bottom, there would…[Read more]

I just found this via instagram http://www.stitchingupparis.com How awesome would a guided shopping tour of the out of the way fabric stores of Paris be?! Possibly too late for @mariasasse but maybe of use here as a reference.

@dubhels2003, do you have a link?
I wonder if it is the place mine comes from. I buy ‘seconds’ for the children’s sewing and the flaws are negligible.Thank you!

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 11 years agoHey all, I just sewed my first entredeux and was SHOCKED at how easy it was! I’ll do a little tutorial for the Butterfly Dress sew-along. I was thinking I’d do a little pintucking tutorial, too, using a double needle and a pintucking foot. All these new (to me) techniques! Very fun, and so much simpler than I expected.
-
What? You are kidding right? They are so simple you are right but you know I thought the same when I first tried them. They are such pretty techniques. I am very glad there are tutorials coming about them all. But, I thought the butterfly was a top?
-
Ack, yes, the Butterfly Top! No idea why I said dress. In any case, I love these techniques.

cybele727 replied to the topic How thin is too thin for knits? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 11 years ago
This is actually what prevents me from buying more knits. Not the sewing, but the actual purchase. I need to find a book that has little swatches of fabric in it with labels. Then I could use that as a reference when I search google. I know what I am asking for, and google hopefully, helpfully provides that. I realize it means that the seller…[Read more]
