@mmollett here’s a link to a blog post right here on Oliver + S where I’ve shown how to do a placket just like that one.
http://oliverands.com/community/blog/2015/02/hide-and-seekcinema-dress-front-placket-tutorial.html I used the Hide and Seek dress, but you could do it to almost any dress. The playtime is probably the closest to your inspiration…[Read more] -

Do you especially want to include a placket, either for looks or ease of dressing? Because otherwise that looks not unlike a Class Picnic top (possibly available on clearance!) with a bit of elastic gathering at the wrist end of the sleeve.

Oh! Of course — my reading comprehension is not so hot before my morning coffee kicks in! 6″ should be plenty and nana can always trim if needed.

Hi @mmollett what a lovely dress! I can see why you are so inspired by it.
Do you own the Lullaby layette pattern at all? And more importantly is the little one you are sewing for wearing a size 24months or smaller? I can see a happy and very close adaptation of the linked dress using the top of this pattern and that is why I asked.
The sleeves…[Read more]

No, you’re correct. The top has side splits and the back hem is lower than the front hem. It’s a nice feature.
Enjoy your sewing. -

Sorry, I guess I’m not clear on the relevance of the grandmother’s size? I’ve made the size 5 and found the elastic to be fine. It is a pretty gentle sort of elastic that fits in there (you’re not meant to use that very stiff, heavy waistband type of elastic) and it’s really just giving a bit of gentle gather/ease for dressing to a bit of the…[Read more]

Oh yes it does😀 And it would be nursing friendly (not like a rtw cross over top I tried nursing in and the tiny press stud popped off first go😱. Thank goodness for Aunties with safety pins😜). I think I need it😉.
I think I also need to (seriously) trace the 12-18 month size of the puppet show shorts as (sigh!) I finally finished the (very cute if…[Read more]

Well that could be a real “out of the box” type thing. It could be colours, the kind of fabric and print of fabric and also the pairing of fabric and sewing pattern. It could be a really surprising project to undertake (and take a look at). I guess it could have the potential of what it would be like to make something in the kitchen without so…[Read more]
