I learned to embroider when I was about 6 because I was fascinated watching my mother make cross stitch quilts and applique quilts. I loved embroidering. Later I made many of my own clothes using mostly Vogue Designer patterns because the pattern guide sheets were so good and the patterns were cut so well. I always loved textiles and color and details like pintucks. I majored in French but wish I could have done something with fashion. When my daughters were little I fell in love with smocking and French hand sewing. I did some of it but really did not have tons of time. I ended up getting divorced and returning to school to become an electrical engineer working for the Defense Dept in Huntsville, AL and did not sew for many years until about 5 years ago when my grand daughter Juniper was born. Then I searched all over for nice patterns and cotton fabric without poly. Lucky me. I discovered Oliver and S and gorgeous fabric. I have purchased so much with lots of dreams but have produced very little.
My vision is to start a not-for-profit called Frigga’s Fiber Arts Studio here in St Louis, mo and hire refugee and immigrant women who need meaningful work and are at risk for sex trafficking to sew children’s garments. I am still working.
