I sew random unnecessary buttons on ALL the time. For a younger child, it makes them feel like they are contributing to the design and have “buy in” and they wear it with pride. My now 6 year old will sit with me after I’ve culled the selection a bit and chooses. Pockets are a great place for decorative buttons!

OH I am sorry about Buddy. We have an older girl whom I think it is time to go, but my husband can’t do it. She’s 13 with bad arthritis and a lipoma, and these weird growths that hang off her body and bleed. She’s got cataracts and she’s getting weird. Senile, and begging incessantly. The other day, she got up on her hind legs and put her front…[Read more]

My twelve year old went off on her school trip to Ningaloo today. We had to get her to school by 5.45am to leave by 6am. That meant getting out of bed by 4.30! I was up anyway, feeding the baby. She was excited but nervous and I have to admit I had a bit of a cry when she left in the car with my husband to go to school. It is the first time she…[Read more]

Welcome Erysiphe! I love that you have told us about what you do. There are many of us who happen to be green thumbs so they may want to ask your advice on a few things. Some of us grow plants of the cropping kind (my husband is a dab hand) and with that comes soraying and all sorts. We are actually researching how to get the soil in a healthier…[Read more]

  • @erysiphe well that’s maybe slightly better than what I was immediately reminded of: Swine Erysipelas. Disease of pigs caused by Erysipelothrix bacterium.
Perhaps we can invent the Greek muse of sewing AND powdery mildew and call her Erysiphe.
    Welcome!

It turns out I only needed to make three pairs of shorts for camp. The third of which were finished this afternoon! She’s all packed ready to leave at sparrows!

Welcome aboard! O+S patterns are definitely an addiction. What does your username mean? I thought it might have been one of the nine muses but I don’t recall there being a muse of cute sewing 🙂

I think it’s ok to link to public photos, we do that in the thread for pointing out great sewing we’ve recently seen. What a completely sweet little detail! Maggie always has the best ideas.

  • Haha Stupid stuff part two… Making a butterfly skirt.

Sewing in the am, as opposed to the evening. Thinking I wish I could sew during the day because I make less mistakes because I am not tired.

Using this LOVELY black dotted Kaufmann rayon cotton blend chambray. Frays often. So I decide to do french seams.

Would have helped if I put…[Read more]

I am in the process of cutting and sewing six pairs of shorts using a Jalie pdf pattern I put together this morning. They are for Imogen to take on camp and will pass the length test much more so than the current rtw ones! Poor girl can’t help being so tall!

Ah, I have sewn for a Bay Area winter baby before! I made the pants in flannel, lined with double gauze and the other way around, gauze lined with flannel, worked out to be quite comparable to pinwale cord in weight. The mama reported they were a great weight for the weather there, should you find yourself fabric shopping for another set down the road.

  • Will join soon! Thanks for starting it!

Welcome aboard! Looking forward to seeing your photos. Many of us are at a similar stage of moving up to sewing grown up clothes. Please do share any tips you think of, they’re most welcome!

  • Ok, great to know — the very first set of patterns were a little bit different in how some of the info was presented, compared to the protocol used now, and I suspect that a box I’m seeing on my pattern sheet that has some numbers in it like 30201, 1/1 – 1/2 REV may be the older way that versions were noted, but I don’t know how to interpret…[Read more]
