Very interesting! do you want to add extra all the way down or just have the gathers there without adding extra fullness at the sides? I think I know how I would do it but i think it’ll be better in pictures.

It’s rough not having a good nights sleep…for both mom and kid! I hope the suggestions help, Jane. The Gro clock was going to be my piece of advice. It’s helped a lot of my friends with older kids (not baby/toddler) stay in bed.

Hi ladies,
Which book would you recommend on using an over locker/serger? I don’t want one that has ‘projects’ to make, but I like a nice meaty read, so something comprehensive.I am a beginner though have been using my machine fairly well so far, for basic stuff. I can thread it OK. It’s a Juki 634DE, though I don’t know if thats of any…[Read more]

Hello, I’m wanting to sew a narrow piece of cotton lace across the pocket. My initial thought was to sew it on top of where the top stitching will be, or to baste the pocket and sew on the lace at the same time as sewing that line of top stitching.
I really want to do french seams for this dress, and I am worried that adding the lace where I…[Read more]

Sounds like the same mistake I made McStitch!

I’m pretty disappointed as we’re doing a gift exchange and my draw didn’t update her list until yesterday. I didn’t realize the items on her wishlist when I shopped (early for once!) were last year’s and I can’t return them. I hate the idea of disappointing her and I’m usually a pretty good gift giver.

These are all such good tips and I would definitely do something like sew the wrong parts together or in the wrong order.
Thank you so much, I will go shopping in my stash!

I made the jacket in a thick, soft knit (almost like fleece) and lined it with lightweight wool jersey. It was so comfy looking.
I also goofed and sewed the body parts into tubes and the sleeves into something else. Thick, soft knits are nightmares to unpick! Pay attention to the instructions! -

I’m sewing the jacket up in chambray lined with a sherpa fleece similar to this http://www.purlsoho.com/purl/products/item/3724-Michael-Miller-Organic-Sherpa
I have to say I’ve already made a mistake on it once (too tired, sewed the arms shut…) and it was impossible to unpick, however it looks as though it will be gorgeously toasty.
I love…[Read more]

@Jane I don’t know what it’s like where you live, but round here they say the average leaving home age is now 27!! :0
Makes sense to have some kind of plan to work towards improving things before then!
My daughter was a really early riser for the first two years. There was no chance of her going back to sleep, so we took turns putting her in the…[Read more] -

I knew I would get some good advice here and I have. Thank you all from the bottom of my tired heart. 🙂
I had never heard of a GroClock before, what a wonderful idea. I talk her every night about staying in bed until the sun is up, but maybe something a little more concrete that she can see right in front of her would help. She is interested in…[Read more]

Nicole, I love the Aden + anais swaddles! I also have a sleepsack (wearable blanket) by the same company. So lovely and lightweight for summer babies.
Working on/buying gifts throughout the year is a smart idea!

Thanks Liesl and Todd for taking the time and effort to find where the problem was and correct it. Although I probably won’t make these it’s reminded me of how much I appreciate your attention to detail! Thank you!

I lined the jacket with flanel when I made it. I’m also thinking of making the Jacket out of cuddle fleece. I think the pants would be great in fleece. you might want to add a ribbing cuff to keep the heat in.

A friend has asked for warmer clothes for her baby, like sweatshirt fleece. I’ve cut a top from a waffle knit and am wondering about making the pants from flannel. Any other tips? I have some pinwale cord but it’s so light, I don’t know that it would actually do much in the way of keeping her warm. I thought also of perhaps changing the placket to…[Read more]
