Those trousers were purchased for the shoot, but if you can hold on a few more weeks we might have something in the fall lineup that appeals to you…

Question: What pants are shown on the cover of the Classic Shirt paper pattern? I’m looking for a slacks pattern that is comfortable, easy to sew and somewhat fitted, but looser than leggings, with side pockets, and suitable for a woven fabric or woven with a bit of stretch. Any recommendations? I just made a test muslim of the Carrie Trousers…[Read more]

Help! I need some advice. I want to sew the jacket in Lisette B6169, but I’m having trouble finding fabric I like. I’m hoping for a botanical print on a light background in either twill or denim, but can’t find one. The closest I’ve found is some upholstery fabric at fabric.com, which is a medium weight 100% cotton. However, it is dry clean only,…[Read more]

Thank you for the quick answer and the link, @liesl
So, should the B6411 had been a Liesl+co pattern, my measurements would appear in size 10 instead of 16, right? And I have to draw a 16 to make the dress in my size. -

Hello, @mariajsanroman! I’ve written a blog post to help explain the difference between sizes:

I have just bought a couple of Lisette for Butterick patterns (B6464 and B6411), and I see that the sizing is different from Liesl+co patterns. The body measurements for a size 10 in the Liesl+co chart correspond to a size 16 in the Butterick envelope.
What size should I cut, 10 or 16? -

A blog post is always welcome! I’ll check out the tutorial before I start. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply!
It’s 1/2″, by the way. 🙂 -

I forget what it calls for–1/4″, maybe? In general, you don’t want to reduce the size of the shoulder pad because it will cause the shoulders to droop more. The shoulder pad is there to give the jacket structure, and if you reduce/eliminate it it might not hang correctly because extra room was built into the shoulder to accommodate it. Does that…[Read more]

Perfect, thank you! Should I be using a thinner shoulder pad since the coat will be much less bulky?

I see no reason why you couldn’t use a lighter weight fabric for this pattern. It think it will be great!

Hello! I’ve recently acquired some beautiful merino suiting and would like to make a light coat. The cut of the Lisette Butterick pattern is exactly what I’m looking for but, as I understand, it’s intended for heavier fabrics. Could I get away with sewing it in the suiting or would I be better off finding a different pattern? I really like Liesls…[Read more]

Hi Deanna
There are some really great classes on Craftsy involving fitting. I have particularly found the classes by Joi Mahon helpful. The reason for this is that even though I have a dressmaker’s dummy to pin my Muslims onto, it doesn’t look like me and of course because of this it turns out totally wrong and fits the dummy not myself.
Joi…[Read more]

So, I am such a novice when it comes to fitting myself. I find myself getting so overwhelmed when I make a muslin that I end up chucking it for a while and making something for the kids instead. I have a couple of fitting books, but where is the best place to post pictures and get input from other sewers? Are there really helpful crafty classes…[Read more]
