Oh, I’d love to teach you how to do this and I’ve always meant to do a tutorial for it! Let me see if we can find time to do it in the next couple of weeks, ok? Or is that too late? I think I recall an article in Threads magazine years ago about it if you need it sooner. They were pick stitching a back zipper on a dress and adding beads to the…[Read more]

Happy Birthday to dear sweet baby Olivia!
Today, I plan to keep going on the pink things. It is quite chilly here at the moment so I will pull out that last piece of pink fur and see if I can’t make a warm hat for Chloe from it. Sewing will be cut short today though due to collecting the kids from school and a much needed run to town.
But there…[Read more]

After a pretty rough day yesterday with this nasty gastro bug, I managed to complete the little tiny bit of smocking and have blocked it and zigzaged to form the piece.
The aim today is to assembly line sew the tea party (outer) dress and the carousel dress, along with a pair of layette pants and to pleat another dress front so I can sit and…[Read more]

In my experience, finishing the seam on knits makes the seam stronger. If you have an overlocker/ serger, I would use this for all seams and then do the hems on the normal sewing machine if a coverstitch isn’t available.

I made a Carousel dress for Liddy (11),today.
I used sand coloured velvet/uncut cord (not sure what it is) with red topstitching. It has quite a medieval feel to it.

I am sorry Masha.
If it is any comfort, the moonboot offers a lot of support. Jed polished all our timber floors wearing one.All the best with the birth, I will be thinking of you.

Sewing for Yourself 11 years agoI really like both top patterns and will be purchasing as soon as I have a little extra “me” money. The Gallery top looks like it would be the perfect top (made in a voile or gauze) to throw on over a tank top or camisole for the slightly cooler summer nights at the beach. I probably won’t make it as a dress as I like my dresses to be more…[Read more]

Sewing for Yourself 11 years agoI love the Gallery so much, I just wish it was a two piece collar. I can see it becoming another Portfolio dress. Hunted down and sort after.
The Maritime is divine, such a slimming and flattering style.
The skirt is so cute, I am concerned how it will look on me as I have a very thick waist and poochy tummy but I love it.
I can see how much…[Read more]

Sewing for Yourself 11 years agoThanks, Sarvi and Cat! Courtney, the skirt is designed to sit at your natural waist, but it’s really a matter of your preference. Just like if you tried things on at a store, you get to decide how you want to wear your clothing. If you prefer it to sit a little lower, that’s up to you. Mine sits at my belly button or slightly lower, yes.
