Cooking and Baking 10 years agoMy stepmom got me a CostCo gift card for Christmas. This might sound like a weird gift, but actually, I loved it. There certain things I’m weirdly stingy about, like Swiffers and Magic Erasers. I now have a lifetime supply of those. I did sneak in a few non-practical items, like an ENORMOUS bag of shelled pistachios. As I discovered the last time…[Read more]

I think my most worn garments are the two matching floral Jump Rope dresses I made when Sofia was 3. They both wore them a lot and now Sofia has started wearing the pink one I made Isabel.
Least worn was also an After School set, and the Class Picnic shorts I made Isabel. But Sofia found those and started using them for gym so all hope isn’t lost.

Such an interesting topic. What is it about certain garments that gets them so much wear, and others so little? Fabric is a big part of it, as mentioned above. I made an After School top in a very light cream cotton and piped the top — the body of it was so light that the shirt became top heavy and was always skewing off one shoulder. Then I made…[Read more]

My sweet Liddy turned 11 today and I made her a red sunhat, at her request.
It was the Sunkissed sunhat but I did go all LTTS bucket hat on the construction. -

Great topic Nicole! I think my most worn items would be all the Class Picnic blouses I’ve made. Not only does my little fusspot love the style, they seem to fit for years and then get passed on to my niece who wears them for years. Great for summer but equally good layered for cooler months. My least worn item would have been the Pinwheel dress…[Read more]

I learned my lesson, if it’s an O+S pattern made out of knit, Sophie will wear it. She actually wore out a pair of nature walk pants last week. Hopscotch, sailboat top, leggings, and playtime tunic have all been popular. Things made out of flannel are also well received (either pyjama pattern or the class picnic made into a dress).

I thought hard about this one, cause it’s a great question – then, I realized that the answer was right in front of me – 100% definitely, the most worn and least worn are from the same pattern – my daughter has worn these pajama bottoms probably about 5 days out of 7 – they are now half-way up her shins, yet she still wears them. The flannel is…[Read more]

Welcome back Becky, I hope the unpacking goes well.
I finished Tildy’s Field Trip outfit. Huge success, my girly girl loves her velvet farm trousers.
Next up a knit Music Class blouse and knit Lunch Box culottes for a sneaky school uniform for Liddy.

I found dresses just bunched up above the waist, it never bothered any of my babies.
Perhaps make one and see how you go. 🙂 -

As I s q u e e z e d Trixie ( 6 mnths) into her Puppet Show tunic (size 0-3 mnth), for the very last time this morning, I reflected on what a lot of wear she has had from it.
It was a good sew. She wore it as a dress as newborn through to a blouse today, with Tea Party boomers.

Cooking and Baking 10 years agoThere was a quarter piece pie left over and I was looking forward to eat that tonight, but Isabel claimed it so I was stuck with cheesy broccoli quinoa and balsamic glazed chicken which I had had for lunch today and yesterday and there is still a serving left! (I made a huge batch over the weekend.)

The only thing I can think of to add to the above is that in a full, gathered skirt like this, an inch or two of width will not make a huge difference in the finished skirt.
That, and I am going to have nightmares about doing set-in sleeves with French seams. Talk about fiddly.

Ah, I remember that stage! If the dress is for photos, then of course make what you like, but for everyday wear, even a tunic length that’s loose will hang down and catch on her knees. Pants or bloomers and slimmer tops are a better bet for an active baby.

Florabell, I believe I’ve only used French seams on the skirt and skirt lining of one Fairy Tale dress (http://www.nestfullofeggs.blogspot.com/2013/05/the-great-british-sewing-bee-dress.html)
No French seams are needed in the bodice as it is fully lined. French seams could be done when attaching the tulip cap sleeves, but bias bound seams could be…[Read more] -

Cooking and Baking 10 years agoI made a salmon, leeks and fennel pie for us last night. It was really good and my eldest would have eaten it whole if I had let her. The little one was not very impressed.
I used smoked salmon in thin slices, some sautéed leeks and thinly sliced fennel.
The only negative thing was that I had forgotten the salt in the pie crust. Need to remember…[Read more] - Load More
