Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Monochrome Project- B&W in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 10 years ago
Thanks @cybele727 I was thinking it needed it’s own thread.
I’ll have a blog post up soonish for son inspiration and with my (first) monochrome creation.
If you use Flickr tags or instagram then tag with #oliverandsmonochrome then we might have a round up of projects at the end.
I found some great pics on pinterest and started a board. -

@justsewit Tamara mine was a relatively thick, stable blend knit. Not as thick as a Ponte. No curling like a cotton lycra, so probably a poly blend. It has a slightly brushed surface and is lovely to wear. It’s the same fabric I’m wearing in the V neck tutorial post.
I’d say it should work in most knits but not really slinky viscose jerseys! -
Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Fairy Tale sizing help? Skip the darts? in the forum oliver + s: fairy tale 10 years ago
The best thing to do is probably to measure the flat pattern across the waistline. Without the darts will it give a big enough waistline?
It would be lovely to do them the same as your first.
I’m wary of the LTTS tutu as wedding attire due to the potential gap at the back. The apron style is perfect for dress ups but would not be a good look in church! -

I’ve just started my zebra dress. I’ll round up some other pics from Flickr/Pinterest and get an inspiration post up on the blog to get us started. Now, I challenge anyone to come with a monotone/September catchy title!

Sarvi replied to the topic How 'long' does the Tea Party Dress (18-24 mth) fit? in the forum oliver + s: tea party 10 years ago
Agree with the above! Wear for a long time with leggings. My daughter’s nearly 6 and her size 4s still fit, they’re just too short to wear without something underneath.

I’ve made one all in knit @mama_knowles it worked well. My collar topstitching wasn’t the neatest 🙂 but it’s ok.
It’s being worn right now and I’ll try and get it photographed today to go on my blog…. -

Interfacing usually works well for me when it comes to hemming. You might need to adjust the tension on your machine for the double needle, too. I usually have to crank up the upper tension by quite a bit to balance things out. Good luck!

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Help with sewing the opening on the Bear Carrier in the forum oliver + s: little things to sew 10 years ago
It will be easier I you sew a basting stitch along the seam allowance and the clip the seam allowance almost to the basting stitches before turning then to the inside.
I’m sure I’ve seen other colour velcro at Spotlight in Aus, but off white or black is most common.
Have fun with it, it’s a gorgeous pattern. -
Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Would you resize the LTTS back pack up? in the forum oliver + s: little things to sew 10 years ago
I think that’s what Cindy did when she first enlarged it, but then found that the enlarged top section meant the straps started too low down and the bag was unbalanced.
I can’t recall if that was a discussion on here or on Siestas and Sewing blog -
Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Would you resize the LTTS back pack up? in the forum oliver + s: little things to sew 10 years ago
I would suggest a really easy route for this. If you want to enlarge it, be sure the seam allowances are drawn into the pattern piece. Then enlarge all the pieces the same percentage and draw new cut lines from the seam lines. That way everything will be enlarged so it all still fits together, but since the seam allowances will also increase you…[Read more]

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic crooked fabric in the forum off topic 10 years ago
My love of stripes and cheap fabric has led me to this problem a couple of times.
With the fabric wet you may be able to realign it so that the selvedges meet and the stripes are vertical, or maybe not.
I would cut so that the striped pattern is true and figure that a small degree off straight grain is workable. -
