@vothgirl, Hugo has printed me up a ‘rota’ that everyone fills in. The Twins change their minds a lot before I get to them but that is have the fun. Once it is cut, that is it.
I finally finished my cousins dress. It is beautiful and if I have fitted the muslin correctly, she fit like a glove.
It was a lot of work though. Lots of pieces,…[Read more] -

Rubber backed curtain fabric with washers sewn in the hem makes a very effective block out. Often curtain making shops will have remnants.
@kgiff, you will be very popular with the school. I have 27 drawstring bags to sew for the 2/3’s. The teacher wants to sort the skipping ropes.

Have you tried the fold in half, fold in the edges to meet and fold press then topstitch, to make roulette?
Or use a similar colour in a lighter fabric. My hair ties did not work well.
I used webbing on this one http://fiveandcounting-motherof5.blogspot.com.au/2013/07/kindy-days.html
Good luck, I loved sewing this one.

I know you can purchase blackout fabric in white or black, and it’s designed to be durable and to really block out the light. If you use that, you could use almost anything on the “surface” (the side that shows) to make it pretty. I’m fairly certain it’s lightweight fabric and easy to work with. (Says the woman who never quite got around the…[Read more]

Katy I made some Girl Friday culottes, and while I have some fit issues, since they were my first ever pants I’m pretty happy with them after all. I have a very involved multi location photoshoot planned (cause it amuses me) so they may not get blogged for a while, but here’s how they look in an art gallery setting…. 🙂

(blushing) Thank you Heidi and welcome Judy.
The pocket definitely works, I have just made one, but by all means leave it off.
I have done that and it still looks adorable. -

Congratulations @justsewit. Rest up!

Nicole replied to the topic Added a Skirt Lining-How Do I Sew the Zipper? in the forum off topic 10 years ago
You girls are the best!
I went with the lining attached to the bodice and then did a few cm’s stitch-in-the-ditch sewing at the front back and side seam.
I hand sewed the lining to the zipper.Thank you so much, I was pretty much flummoxed on this on and it turned out so nicely.

I’m sure! I really, really appreciated the difference when I started sewing for myself. On tiny garments I didn’t mind doing finicky finishes but on an adult-sized garment that I hoped to wear in this lifetime, it was remarkable how much quicker it was. Good tools are such a pleasure to use.

Sarvi, you are going to love your serger once you get going with it! It will speed up your sewing because it finished seam allowances soooo much more quickly than the sewing machine. And of course that’s just the tip of the iceberg…

This is great, Maggie! Would you have any interest in contributing a blog post about this idea? I think it would be really useful to other readers.

This year I want to teach my two ‘students’ to knit cables. My MIL and a friend’s daughter both have asked for help with knitting and have taken off with it.
I want to make myself a Bistro dress and another Cinema dress from a…[Read more]
