Sounds exciting!
@lilypadmontana, if you use cloth nappies, make the bodysuit in the second size. It will fit for longer. And you want it to fit, it is so cute! -

Linen will continue to soften more and more with each washing, and that’s one of the beauties of it. I wrote a little bit about it a while ago on the blog: http://oliverands.com/community/blog/2013/04/fabric-friday-natural-fibers-used-to-make-fabric.html

The only one I’ve made was flannel and i thought it worked very well. The Woollies flannels are lovely, I made a Music Class shirt in a herringbone flannel from them and it washed and wore perfectly. I say go for it. It will be more a heavy shirt weight than a jacket but the fabric will behave just fine.
You’ll be able to spot my flannel Sunday…[Read more] -

Oh, I didn’t take it at all personally, no worries. Just thinking in a broader way about what we do and how it affects the world.
We buy her uniforms from the required seller, only plain white shirts, socks, and shoes are allowed to be purchased elsewhere. I buy her jeans and swimsuits, she has one pair of each … hm. That’s pretty much it. Any…[Read more]

That’s a thought-provoking perspective. If what you buy in stores is unethical and what you make at home is excessive then what do you do?

I see that too, but if I go to one of the subfora, I get the compose window there. Possibly it’s just set up to prevent you from accidentally creating a new topic in the wrong place?

@roundtheworldgirl I bumped up an old thread that might help.
But, yeah, I want a coverstitch machine.
Best wishes to everyone who’s having a crappy time. -

Bumping up this thread…
What’s been mostly working well fir me over the last year of sewing lots of knit clothes is this:
1. Woolly Nylon in the bobbin
2. Having a second bobbin casing with tension backed way off so the bobbin thread really does zig zag fully
3. Using the walking foot to get over side seam bumpsNone of that means I don’t want…[Read more]

I am always very grateful for pretty hand-me-downs 😉
I typed a great long post and the internet ate it but, in a nutshell, if you are worried about too many posh dresses, sew the school shirts.
Use beautiful fine cotton, Liberty facings and pearl buttons.
I enjoy sewing Hugo’s work clothes almost as much as Trixies pretty frocks as I use lovely…[Read more] -

Great thoughts, ladies. You make some really important points — it will not necessarily always be the case that she wants to wear what I make. Now will I be able to sew from such small quantities of fabric for that much longer, for that matter. Maybe it’s best to just enjoy it while we’re both happy with it.
There’s also the good point about…[Read more]

I was thinking about this while looking over the holiday sewing thread. My kid’s closet is bursting with party dresses. I feel semi-guilty about the size of my stash, so I have been trying to make some inroads, and since I buy small cuts, it limits what I can sew.
As a result, she has had a new dress for: Easter, Valentine’s, the school’s…[Read more]
