I absolutely second @justsewit – I would absolutely make both items for me (and my husband) to wear; maybe not together, but I would definitely wear a polo for work (in fact, I do quite often), and my husband does as well – and my husband and I both live in sweats in the house.

When you leave a clothing store empty handed because you could make it better/higher quality.
(Stripes and patterns not lining up in RTW drive me insane!)

I was thinking about this thread today. We are blessed/cursed with abundant handmedowns from friends, and as I am very much a waste-not-want-not kind of a gal, I always use everything that fits, is made of natural fibers, and is not super-ugly or inappropriate for my children. This summer that means that they have plenty of clothing. I am…[Read more]

You spend the better part of a church service scrutinizing the priest’s vestments/a particularly beautiful Easter dress/insert-other-garment-here, looking for seam lines and trying to figure out how they were put together.

@April Henry, I am planning on making this soon in the size 8 as part of a sewing swop. I have 27 drawstring bags to make for the school and it is next, after that project.

Someone asks your child where they got their dress/trousers/shirt from and they look blankly at the questioner and answer slowly …. ‘My mum’ ….

Ok I have just read the blog post about the new parachute polo and sweatpants pattern. Would it be possible for us to have an adults version too please? I know my two older children (who are now outgrown from the oliver and s size range) would live in this outfit were it available and my husband loves sweatpants in winter. Even I would wear it as…[Read more]

So excited there is a new pattern being introduced on the blog! I have to get on with Noah’s trousers today and sort them out. I wanted to get started yesterday but we had a very very busy day dealing with people popping in and asking auestions and we all felt like we were running around like crazy people!
So today! Once Chloe is asleep, I plan…[Read more]

Hallo April!
I am a bit tired today,( Trixie had jabs yesterday and didn’t sleep that well last night) but if I link to my blog post http://fiveandcounting-motherof5.blogspot.com.au/2014/03/the-garden-party-tutorial-part-one.html maybe you can see the notches in that?
I am sorry not to be more help….. I am a wee bit fuzzy headed today.

I buy Tefal, nice and hot and lots of steam.
Fairly tough too, my current one has survived being knocked over by a football in flight! -

I only once tried to cut and use the PDF pattern piece. It was not successful. Too stiff and ultimately inaccurate. I glue my pattern sheet together, fold it like a commercial pattern sheet (sort of concertina it) and store it in a big ziplock bag. I laminate the colour pages and put them at the front and back of the bag. The instructions are…[Read more]

I hear you @cybele727 One of the things I dislike about my home printed patterns is that I can’t see through the paper, so matching stripes and patterned fabric is much harder. Thus I end up tracing the pattern anyway. My interfacing tracings are flexible, translucent and hold up to being pinned over and over. Find me printer paper like that and…[Read more]

I’m afraid I haven’t made this one — hopefully somebody who has will be along soon to chime in!

I recently mooted the idea of a Paris sewing trip to my Mum, Auntie and cousin. I had found this page suggesting some sewing shops, if it’s of any help to you:- http://atelierclaraines.canalblog.com/archives/2012/09/17/25121595.html
Not sewing related, but I had also saved this:- http://www.theguardian.com/travel/2011/may/06/top-10-cafes-paris…[Read more]
