Using a contrast fabric for inside of collar?

I am making this from a thick linen and am wondering if I could make the inner collar and facings from a lighter cotton. I have cotton that pretty closely matches the color of the linen, with a simple print, so I don’t think it would be too garish, but I’m not sure if you need both layers to be the same weight for structural purposes. Any thoughts, ladies?

Oh, you could absolutely do it. Have you seen this one?

Liesl, I saw that last night and was bowled over by the details!!! And I love that it is inside like a little secret treasure. Precious.

I like the idea of a contrast on the inside of the collar – it could match the bias binding on the inside.
