Has anyone made this coat with lighter weight fabrics – a lighter weight canvas or twill for example?

We live in Southern California so definitely the heavier wools are out of the question but there are times you need a coat and I’m DYING to make this pattern!

I was thinking of making it (for our 3 year old son) out of canvas or twill (would the melton wool be too heavy? Some of those colors are dreamy!) and then making the quilted liner for when we go to the mountains, etc.

I can’t see why a canvas or twill wouldn’t work – as long as it wasn’t completely slinky it would still have a good boxy shape.

I agree–as long as it’s not too drapey it should be fine!
