I have been struggling for days with trying to make wedding garter. Don’t know what I am doing wrong. Once I sew casing, insert elastic; the entire garter twists up on itself and does not lie smoothly in circle… looks more like a pretzel! All twisty…The things I’m thinking are: elastic is old, or wrong kind; I’m stretching elastic too much when inserting –maybe Elastic is too short or using too much fabric (wanted it to gather nicely). I’m using formula of 22″ inches of fabric and 3″ less elastic (19″)…….

Anyone have an expert assistance for me?

Has the elastic twisted in the casing as you threaded it through? I think the ratio of fabric to elastic should be fine. Is the channel for the elastic wide enough? And how does it look on the leg? I can imagine the frustration of what should be comparatively simple sewing!
