Badminton top changes

Would the Badminton top still look nice, and fit correctly, if I take off the sleeve ruffles? Also is the ribbon tie necessary? or could I somehow do something else? Maybe a button? My daughter loved the scalloped skort so I ordered the pattern but she doesn’t care for how girly the top is. I’m trying to plan out some modifications so she’ll actually wear it. It looks like such a nice cool summer top.

Both the bow and flutter sleeve are strictly decorative items. They can easily be removed w/o affecting the construction of the top. I think it would look great without the flutter sleeve. Maybe make one out of some cheap fabric as a test and get her opinion on it w/ the modifications. Good luck.

    Thanks Jane,

I may try the top with the changes once I get the pattern. My daughter is adamant she won’t wear it as is seen in the picture. She’s not a ruffle girl.

The bow comes from a ribbon that is threaded through 2 bias strips that are sewn on the front piece. Maybe you could just make one bias strip and then put elastic through it. I think about leaving the flutter sleeves off every time I make it but then I have always included them. It is such a sweet little ruffle. I am not a ruffle person either.

You can make it without the ruffle. It won’t change the whole pattern if you do. I accidentally did mine without here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/justsewit_tk/8399869577/in/photostream and here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/justsewit_tk/8400957984/in/photostream. This is a size 12 but it can workmfor any size.

Thanks for the ideas. I think I’ll leave off the ruffle and maybe still do the ribbon but in the same color fabric as the whole shirt so it’s not as noticeable.

You can make it without the ties or the bias trim on the front, I have done it before and it doesn’t affect the fit at all: http://www.flickr.com/photos/52761227@N04/7077356233/in/set-72157629424184719
