If I want to shorten the length of the top piece what would I use as a guide? Should I end the top at her belly button and then add the bottom ruffle of the trench coat? Does that make sense?

And there really isn’t a way to add pockets to this version is there? Could I do in seam ones?

In seam pockets should work or just add the ones that come with it to the front. Have you seen this post on shortening the top piece? http://sewingforfour.blogspot.com.au/2012/09/ruffliscious-trench.html

That is such a darling trench. I do understand the process, I’m just wondering about fit and what would look most flattering.

Of course I can just use the pockets it comes with! What was I thinking? I kept thinking that the gathers wouldn’t allow this, but of course it will. Thank you!
