Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Kids Clothes Week is coming up very soon (April 20-26) and this time around they have an optional wild things theme. KCW is a seasonal sewing challenge, where you commit to sewing kids clothes one hour per day for one week. It’s a community of hundreds of people sewing together everyday from all over the globe. Also, KCW is always a great motivator, just the push you need to start a new sewing project.
The kids you sew for, what are their favorite animals? It can be easy to add animals to Oliver + S patterns. I gathered up some inspiration so you can plan, go through your stash, and get all the needed supplies.
You don’t have to look very far for animal inspiration. We’ve had quite a few tutorials in the past on the blog.
- Super adorable cat embroidered pocket on the Lunch Box Tee
- Animal pocket toy on the Lunch Box Tee
- Camping capes using the red riding hood pattern (from Little Things to Sew) with a freezer paper stenciled dog and horse
- Cross-stich an owl onto clothing or a button, using the free cross-stich pattern
- Add animal tails to the Sunny Day Shorts pattern
Here are some more ideas coming from Oliver + S sewists.
- Dog applique on the Popover Sundress
- Hippos on the Roller Skate Dress
- Embroidered whales on the Croquet Dress
Do you have plans to sew during Kids Clothes Week? And remember, you don’t have to follow the wild things theme in order to take part. Let’s all sew along together next week, shall we? Do share your photos of your Oliver + S creations in the Flickr group, we hope you will.
Love those striped leggings!
I am very excited for Kids Clothes Week! I think the Wild Things theme is great fun! Thanks for sharing so many fun ideas!
I am planning for KCW. Love the horse on the cape – my daughters would love it – on a dress or a shirt. I got some inspiration when a mini Boden catalogue arrived this week. Lots of wild animals on everything.
LOVE the band of birds on th Library Dress sewn in blue fabric! Thanks for sharing such variety! Sarah — vacationing in Toronto
I can not find the legging link? They are so cute!
