Nicole’s tutorial dosen’t seem to have the pocekts but it’s worth a look for construction. In fact the whole of Nicole’s blog is worth reading! Amazing step-by-step tutorials and georgeous kids and clothes 🙂
Amy over at badskirt also did a sew along for this dress a few years ago. Here’s a link to the pocket tutorial,…[Read more]

This is my first Oliver and s pattern and I’ve already hit a stumbling block with the first piece. The pocket yoke does not neatly attach to the pocket. I’m going to try again and hope to find a better way. I’m thinking about lining it so I can simply turn it out. I think it will give a neater finish. Anyone create a pocket that way? Otherwise, it…[Read more]

My husband is very supportive, has a great eye for colour and things “going” together and is a creative person himself. Generally he is happy to listen and be involved in sewing creative discussion 🙂
This year i’m going to continue working on my wardrobe, espically getting fit right. I’m working on my TNT tsirt pattern and I got Lietchy’s…[Read more] -

I’m doing my prep work for the sew along tomorrow and want to shorten the culottes to just above knee height. About the length of the modelled version below.
Question is do I take the length out of the middle of the pattern piece like you would on lomg pants, or just from the bottom given how wide they finish and the deep 2 inch hem? Any thoughts?…[Read more] -

Janice, I’ve made 5 t-shirts in the past week for myself. Once you get the fit down, they’re quite addictive.
I’d like to make the Cinema and Bistro dresses.
And I’d like to continue exploring new fabrics.

just wanted to update a little… pix of prototype in the o+S flickr. In line with my 2015 resolution to do new things, I taught myself to silkscreen so i could make the red appliques. Royal blue poplin main fabric, then poly-cotton broadcloth appliques. Bucket hat in sz 6-12 mo from LTTS became the pillbox hat.
I have only sewn up two of the…[Read more] -

I’m actually making something for ME – ok, it’s just a t-shirt, but it’s a start! I don’t wear dressy clothes for work generally, so if I can get a great fit on this t-shirt, I plan to make about 20. Come to find out, I must have some freakishly short arms….
My 5 year old got a sewing machine for Christmas, so she is working on a doll quilt.…[Read more]

I’m sure! I really, really appreciated the difference when I started sewing for myself. On tiny garments I didn’t mind doing finicky finishes but on an adult-sized garment that I hoped to wear in this lifetime, it was remarkable how much quicker it was. Good tools are such a pleasure to use.

Sarvi, you are going to love your serger once you get going with it! It will speed up your sewing because it finished seam allowances soooo much more quickly than the sewing machine. And of course that’s just the tip of the iceberg…

This is great, Maggie! Would you have any interest in contributing a blog post about this idea? I think it would be really useful to other readers.
