@Linda – Calcutta is famous for Bengali cotton and tant cotton. It is fabulous! Saris are generally 5.5 to 6 meters, so plenty of fabric. The cotton is fine and translucent almost muslin type, you would have to line any garments made from it I reckon. All saris would be starched, but the weave should be fine. Also if you buy from a big store then…[Read more]

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 11 years agoI can’t see the fabric you splurged on, is there supposed to be a link or attachment? I doubt I can suggest anything you haven’t thought of but I’m excited to see what you’ll make!

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 11 years agoWould you like it to reflect the bride’s or bridesmaids’ dress/es in any way? usually there is a little detail that can serve as a jumping-off point, like a portrait collar or bit of design on the lace.
If that isn’t a consideration, go for the most opulent/fiddly/would-not-do-this-for-pay beading/smocking/embroidery. Maybe even save some work for…[Read more] -

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 11 years agoLove, love, love Gail Doane’s gorgeous creations!! Funny thing….we briefly met her last weekend, while “crashing” an heirloom sewing class she was teaching. Luckily, it was during lunch so we got a quick photo with her and were able to ooooh and aaaah over the loveliness she brought to showcase.
Yes, yes, yes….if only the time could match our…[Read more]

I heart off the cuff tutorials! I’ve done plackets using this one before. They require a bit of precision but are strangely so satisfying! I just do a horizontal fold at the top of the placket instead of a point on my size 4T shirts. Otherwise, it gets quite fiddly.
I can’t wait to see your blouse.
And, I admit I have some city weekend here…[Read more]

My sewing room has been moved to our detached upstairs to give the kids some room to spread out a bit. I’m finding it much harder to carve out sewing time. No more put dinner on…sew….stir dinner….sew….serve dinner. Now I have to sew in bigger blocks of time, i.e. once the kids are asleep. Oh the horror! My husband likes to call these…[Read more]

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 11 years agoOh yes that’s another one of the favourites on my to do list but because we will be heading into winter (whatever that is around here) and my baby is still very much a “lying down” baby, that one is earmarked for more around the first birthday mark. I might even adapt one of Gail Doane’s bishops to make it fit her when she’s walking. It would be…[Read more]
