Loving the Lullaby Layette pattern. I’ve made two bodysuits and a top so far. One is with Cloud 9 double gauze leftover from MBR Luna Pants I finished today. I’m calling them my crazy pants because it’s s rather loud print, not my usual style but I kinda love them.

Hi @nathaliecarol I think it depends on the border print itself. If, like in Juliamom’s case the border is “soft”. Ie curved, floral or ill defined, then cut as per the pattern.
However, if the border print has a very defined, straight edge bottom, then I would adjust the pattern pieces and “square off” the hem. It’s as simple as lengthenening…[Read more] -

Generally if the curved hem is slight you shouldn’t have a problem. As demonstrated by @juliamom2009!

It can be very deceptive when the hem of the dress skirt is curved but honestly it will look fantastic once it is done. I have a bubble dress in a border print waiting it’s turn (when the white thread is in the machine again) and I used a border on a recent playdate dress. But the above picture is all you need to persuade you to go for it.
It…[Read more]

Hi, I just purchased the Garden Party Dress specifically to make a dress with a fabric my daughter picked out earlier this month. The fabric has palm trees on it with a row of flamingos along the bottom selvage. I was disappointed when I downloaded the pattern and saw that the pattern pieces aren’t straight across at the bottom edge of the…[Read more]

I whipped up a music class skirt in denim during morning nap time the other day. The elastic needs tightening but it looks soooo cute! I do love that pattern alot.
Today its all about tracing the required patterns for skirts, tops, jeans etc. The jalie shirt was a big hit so I am anticipating the arrival of my package of fabric to replenish the…[Read more]

I’ve always waxed afterward so it doesn’t clog up the machine. I know someone who sews with waxed canvas all the time and it does tend to make your machine a bit dirty, so if you wax beforehand be sure to use a press cloth and clean your machine well afterwards!

I have a question that sort of relates, if I want to make a coat with waxed canvas should I wax the material before or after I sew it?

Thank you @motherof5, @liesl and @justsewit! I would definitely be interested in a blog post including this topic Liesl.
I have started: I cut out the skirt in the print fabric and will get sewing it today. I plan to try come color blocking on the top by using the print for only the front-side panels with the rest of the top pieces solid. (At…[Read more]

Thanks, I would appreciate that. I was looking but couldn’t find any examples. I was thinking of waxing one for a raincoat.

Am making a muslin for the Gallery tunic. After completing the full bust adjustment, am having difficulty with the sleeves pulling in the front and buckling in the back. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Have just finished first pair of shortie PJ’s with your Butterick pattern. What type of interfacing do you recommend? Knit, lightweight woven, or lightweight nonwoven? I used Shape Flex and it seems a little stiff.

@lotuspeachblog I love the colour blocking idea for the top. I was just wondering how you were planning to block the top? There are many ways you coukd do it, given the pieces you have to work with.
I think if you used just the plain fabrics up the top and the floral for the skirt, it would work a treat.
Colour blocking can work your figure to…[Read more]
