Please keep me posted! I’m curious to hear how it goes. And it’s great to hear the PDF assembled easily. Cheers!

I don’t know whether it is a true double-faced fabric. The wool layers are loosely woven, so hard to separate, but I haven’t tried stitching over/reinforcing them and going at it, as shown in the blog. More to come. Thank you so much for the links and for your very helpful suggestions. As usual, the O + S pdf was a breeze to put together.

Is it a true double-faced fabric? Because if it is, you can separate the fabric at the edges and tuck the edges in between the layers before hand-stitching to finish it. The would allow you to create a fully reversible cape if you don’t mind hand sewing quite a bit. I just did a quick google search and found a couple of tutorials to help…[Read more]

Hey Johanna,
Very perceptive questions!
1. I gave you a little extra width in the skirt back placket for “turn of cloth” and because the testers felt it was a bit tricky to sew. It felt safer to have a little extra there, but if you match the crease to the line of stay stitching you’ll be fine.
2. With regard to the difference in width on the…[Read more]

I just received the fabric for my Forest Cape and am surprised to find it is double-sided. Both sides of the wool blend are soft (child friendly) and attractive, so I’ve decided to forego lining the cape. I think I could put the interface between the layers of wool and bind the raw edges. My question is, what to do about the neck facing?

That’s great to hear, @with-love-heidi! My mom made one with a laminate that she’s been using for a long time, too. I need to find time to make one for myself!

Hi,
I love this book, but there are a two basic things I don´t understand and it id driving me crazy.Question 1: On page 47, section 33 it says “The top edge of the placked and the fabric near the slash line will match at the outer edges”. How can they match? The placked is 1.5″ wide and one fourth of that is 3/8″. 1/4″ (from section 30) and…[Read more]

I’ve used fusible with good results. I made a wallet with fusible last January and it is still going strong with daily use.

No, it’s fine. I prefer the sew-in interfacing for this project, but if you have fusible and want to use it go ahead. Enjoy!

The Have It All Wallet pattern calls for extra firm woven sew-in interfacing. I only have extra firm fusible. Is there a reason not to just sew in the fusible instead of fusing it? Thanks.

Sorry, I don’t have dimensions. I’m guessing you might have already come up with something, but I think an obi/kimono-style belt would be adorable with the culottes.
