If anyone has any pic of the underside of the dress construction please share. I’ve seen a blog about adding the lawn and crimoline (tulle type) but its hard to visualize the stitching without seeing the inside of the dress.

OK I see it now. I’ve cut out the pattern pieces so I think it will make more sense. Yes I did think about the Fairy Tale Dress but thought since I had the book, let me try as many variations as I can with this.
I’m going to bypass the tulle for now and just try a simpler version with a rayonny drapy material I picked up.
I’ll have to check if…[Read more]

I love the styling of the SoHo shorts, it’s by far the nicest pattern for this sort of garment that I’ve seen, and I want one! However, I’m a rather odd shape with a dramatic natural hip-spring, and am significantly below average height.
Your largest size, 20, is a match for my waist measurement, but the hip measurement is smaller by several…[Read more] -

Liesl has corrected the problem with the pattern, and we’ve placed an errata notice on the website. It can be found here. Fortunately, it’s a simple issue to fix.

The digital version of the pattern has been updated with this fix.

Julia R. I think because of the loose nature of this below the waist you could just go with your waist measurements. I am not an expert by any means, so maybe someone more knowledgeable about fitting your body shape will chime in.

Liesl,
I changed the center pleat and that helped a lot. I still have about .5 inches extra, but that is probably user error. I have never sewn anything with a perfect seam allowance. I will scootch some of the pleats over a smidge and it will end up perfect.
Thanks so much for checking this. I was starting to feel a bit inept not knowing…[Read more] -

Just got my pattern in the mail and am excited to start. This always perplexes me: my waist is 33″ (size 14) and my hips are 38″ (size 6). Should i grade between sizes? It seems like a big jump.

I think you’d probably be just fine to skip the interfacing (except for the brim, where called for in the pattern) – it will change the feel of the hat, but for a baby I think softer/floppier will be just fine. I’ve made maybe 10 of these hats, all in quilting cottons but of various weights, and with whatever interfacing I have on hand (from very…[Read more]

@cat75, as you suspected, the center pleat is the problem. It isn’t graded correctly, and I’m so sorry about that! I’m working on a solution to the problem, but in the meantime, if you want to restitch the pleat to be 2″ from the rise seam I think that should solve the problem. Will you report back to me and let me know if that works? I’m still…[Read more]

Hmmm. What size are you making, @cat75? I’ll take a look at the pattern and see if I can figure out what’s going wrong.

Hi, I’d like to make the bucket hat for my baby nephew, this will be the first hat I’ve made! I have some lovely ‘queue for the zoo’ Liberty fabric to use for it but it’s very light weight. Will this be ok to use or should I use fusible interlining on all of the pattern pieces?? I’d be grateful for any advice!

I am working on a pair of Soho shorts. It has gone together really well until now. I am trying to sew the waistband to the shorts but the front waistband is about 2 inches longer than the shorts. The back is perfectly fine. Now since there are pleats my first course of action was to look back at the pattern pieces to see if I did something…[Read more]

Can you explain where you’re not clear so I can help? The skirt gets attached at step 4 on page 144, and then the side seams are sewn up after. But I’m actually wondering if you’d benefit from the Fairy Tale Dress pattern, since it includes a tulle layer as well. It might have everything you’re looking for, and in great detail?
