This is a picture of the end where if I pin at one end and align raw edges it shows the extra.

Ha! The first thing I did was say- did I pin the wrong side.
Nope!
Here is my picture.
Note I have sandwiched the shirt between the collar band and the rough edges of the band and shirt are aligned.
I’m having a hard time understanding what you mean by by pin at the seamline.

Oh, good question @lightningmcstitch! I’ve sewn the size 10 myself, so I know the collar fits correctly. When I say pin on the seamline I mean don’t pin at the edges but pin where you’ll be sewing. You’ve already staystitched the neckline, so that’s a good guide. I hope that helps! We’ve got lots of photos on the sew-along, so maybe that is a good…[Read more]

I don’t have the pattern to hand, but is there any chance you’re trying to attach the collar band upside down?

Size 10. Pinning on seam line? So what do I line up? I am confused by that!! 🙂
I am aligning rough the cut edges of the neckline and the collar band right?
I will see if I can take a small file picture to upload. Although I’ve never had any luck uploading pictures to the forum.

Can you tell me what size you’re making? It’s late here, but I can double-check it in the morning. In the meantime, make sure you’re pinning on the seamline and not on the cut line. The smaller sizes will require more clipping than the larger sizes, but if you need to clip don’t hold back. Some fabrics require more clipping than others. I hope that helps!

This is my first ever boy’s button down shirt. I am taking it slow so that fatigue doesn’t cause mistakes. But I am at the stage where you pin the collar band on the shirt and have a question.
My band seems way too long. When you place the band and align the dots with the folded edge of the button placket, there should be 1/2 inch excess at…[Read more]

This definitely sounds like a job for a professional, Erin! I wouldn’t know where to begin, but any sewing machine repair place can probably help. Good luck!

Hi Erin,
It looks like your photos were too big up load, but if the pockets are showing below the hem the best thing to do it probably to make them shorter. It must be because of the knit! I hope that helps.

Just finished hemming and held the tunic up and Aaaaarrrggh! The pockets are peeking out the bottom!!!!!!
Should I re-serge the pockets and make them a little smaller? This is a 2T but a very Drapey jersey knit.

I am new to serging. I was recently given an old Simplicity Serger Pro, figured it out, and got active doing projects. My first main project was rolled hem small cloth napkins. I made over 80 before the machine started to slow down and start seizing after I would stop to adjust the material or thread tail. I could loosen it up using the hand…[Read more]

I am rather late to this party..but here is something to consider–
Along with what Liesl said about shoulder width…….
Sometimes when using fabric we’ve repurposed, twists can happen when a new style is cut from an existing garment because the fabric is stretch off-grain from prior wear. It’s not always a bad thing when fairly subtle like you…[Read more] - Load More
