Sounds like a job for your local service center! I know nothing about machines or sergers and can’t offer any help or suggestions, but I do know that it’s enormously beneficial to have someone knowledgeable who can service your machines. It’s a good idea to have them tuned up and serviced every year at the minimum and worth every penny in…[Read more]

I have a Husquvara Viking 905 serger. I had been sewing for a while when suddening the motor stopped. The light is on so power is going to the machine. There was no sudden sound. I can only assume it may have overheated and the motor seized. I have taken things apart, turned everything off then on again. Let it cool for hours and still nothing.

Yes, you are right! There is an error in the length measurement. We’re so sorry about that. We’ll issue an errata and update the pattern shortly. But in the meantime, the correct length measurements for the bodysuit should be:
- 0-3 M: 15.75″
- 3-6 M: 17.75″
- 6-12M: 18.75″
- 12-18M: 20″
- 18-24M: 21.5″

I’m just wrapping up my first bodysuit, and I chose the 0-3 month size based on the chart stating that the finished bodysuit length was 19″ – which seemed *very* long for a 0-3m bodysuit. However, now that I’m finishing it, my finished length is 14.75″ (from the neckline at the center to the end of the bodysuit). I double-checked the pattern…[Read more]

I would love to design a dress for teen sizes in the future and this book only goes to size 12. I think that there is such a shortage of good dress patterns for teens and would love a basic block pattern for bodice, skirt and sleeves, maybe as an add on to the book.

Rae Downing@ladyraestewart, I hope you see this post:
My old 14U Series Singer is doing kind of the same thing that you wrote about 2 years ago with the popping noise when sewing thicker fabrics and then the needle thread coming out of the needle. (that’s is pretty amazing to me that it unthreads itself right out of the eye of the needle!). I am…[Read more]

speedymog started the topic Opinions on toggle placement in the forum oliver + s: school days 7 years ago
Another dilemma with my almost-finished jacket that keeps throwing curve balls!
I’ve just discovered that the cording on the toggle sets that I purchased are not long enough and I have almost nothing to replace them with. I found some lovely ribbon in my stash, but only have enough for 5 of the six toggle pieces! I literally have nothing else…[Read more]

Thanks Maggie, I’ve decided to fuse the heavyweight interfacing to the original coat material, which is thick so I’m hoping that will be enough!

I’m glad to hear it wasn’t just me!
In my second version, I did use a bias strip to finish the sleeve hem and it worked much better. I first trimmed the sleeve so that the hemming would match the 1/4″ seam allowance for the bias binding (instead of the 5/8″ hem the pattern is designed for). Then I used a bias strip and followed the instructions…[Read more]

Has anyone done a cap sleeve similar to the terrace dress on this cartwheel dress? My preteen would prefer a small sleeve (no bare underarms) any tutorial on adding it to the terrace dress. I love the last blog post about it being double sided but we great if I could manage it with some cap sleeves also.

Hi @speeedymog! I just installed a magnetic snap in a bag I’m making. The instructions said to cut out a silver dollar sized piece of fusible fleece, thin cotton batting, fleece, felt, etc. to put behind the snap in addition to regular interfacing on the fabric, which you’ve already done. I think it gives the fabric a little extra strength and…[Read more]

Hi @Mima! This isn’t exactly answering your question, but what about using the Girl on the Go dress pattern instead? It looks quite similar in style to the Chai Tee (the sleeves are almost identical, it seems), is already dress length, and comes in teen sizes. You could maybe even add a some width to the shoulders to make the little pleats, like…[Read more]
