Nicole, I watched it on the computer. I don’t think it is broadcast here in Virginia. I loved watching it. I agree about the time constraints, I could never complete anything in the amount of time they had. I think the winner would have won even if it was not timed, though.

I absolutely loved this show!! My only complaint: I wish it was longer than 4 weeks long!

I think what I like most about it is that it’s such a good-natured sort of competition. No fake drama. At least, not what I have seen!

You know, when I saw the pocket that Lauren put on her dress I thought, “hmm.. I wonder if she got that idea from an Oliver & S pattern”.
I also wish they wouldn’t rush the contestants so. The ability to complete a project quickly does not mean you are a good seamstress. I know alot of people who can sew a dress much faster than myself, but I…[Read more] -

I loved the series and cried during the finale. I found that once contestants were eliminated, there was more time to show more of the sewing process among the remaining players. It looks like there will be a season 2.

You could maybe put ribbing around the neckline. I’ve been thinking about making this in knit and, since I would not include the lining, I would use a piece of ribbing for the elastic casing.

Well, it is the kind of knit that will cause success. A more stable knit will be better, if I can do a badminton top on knit then you should be able to do a roller skate in knit – the book report dress can be done in a knit also. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Such good ideas! I wouldn’t have thought about going down a size or the woven facing — makes perfect sense. I cut out a 12-18 mos for my youngest in a cheap fabric.com rib knit and started in on it….and the neckline is way, way too big. (I did the view without the facing.) It’s not a lost cause, though. I’m going to pleat it to size so it’s…[Read more]

Yes I agree with Nicole, a woven for the facing will stabilise the knit at the neck and lessen the chance of ugly stretched necklines.

I think a knit would be lovely but I would use a woven for the neck facing to keep it in place.

Hello Rebecca:
I guess I too have a long torsoed daughter. I added 1.5 inches to my daughter’s fairy tale along with other dressed that require darts. I guess how I’ve handled it is to not add to the bottom, but to splice the pattern at the point from a notch on both sides, front and back, and add the length between the splice. Then I connect…[Read more] -

Jennifer1568- thanks. I will be getting to this muslin in the next day or so. I will start by trying them in the same spot and see what happens! Since this is her 2nd fairy tale- and the first one still fits pretty well- except for length- I have been looking at the first one to sort of gauge adjustments that will be needed, 🙂
Heidi- I have…[Read more] - Load More
