Agreed. I’m trying one more place and then will officially give up on the large format concept altogether.
There aren’t any print shops that are on my way to school, groceries, soccer or fabric stores. They are mostly in the finance district, but I found an architectural place that’s sort of near a birthday party I have to take one kid to…[Read more]

and here it is! When singing, make hands into a mittens shape, wiggle thumbs when “The Thumb Place” is sung, then just move hands back and forth (or whatever) as you sing, so long as they stay in “mitten formation” ! As usual, when attempting to teach this skill to toddlers, just start singing the song and doing the hand movements yourself at any…[Read more]

Costs me $9.00 in Canada at my local print shop. Call a place that prints blue prints. You’ve been working on this for a long time.

this is an old timey thing I did when my kids were little, no sewing involved. They learned The Mitten Song…”thumb in the thumb’s place, fingers all together…..” and so on. I also taught this song to the 2 yr old nursery school group waay back. They loved it, caught on quickly and took pride on locating that thumb into the Thumb’s Place.…[Read more]

So I really want to sew up that Bistro Dress and I thought I’d take another stab at this large format printing malarkey. I got some recs for copy shops then started by calling a place close to hubby’s office. They quoted me precisely $57!
I’m going to say that again: fifty-seven United States dollars.
good grief.
If I upload it to Staples.com,…[Read more]

What about these from Land’s End? They’re no longer for sale, and the reviews are sketchy, but the picture might be enough to get you started. I swear Sophie had a pair like these and I loved them. -

Oh Jenny, that is going to be horrible if the temperature gets that high. That’s a lot of flooding. Fingers crossed for everyone.

I wear these kind of leggings almost every day – I’m wearing them right now! Hopefully the attached will show you what the two sides of the fabric look like. I did a quick search and found yardage here: http://www.nancysnotions.com/product/kelly+polartec+power+stretch+fabric.do

Thanks Deb! You’re the best, and I’m impressed that you didn’t “work blue” with that one!
There once was a quilter named Lizzy
But quilting was making her dizzy -

Not a pattern as such, but you know it could be done with the LTTS mittens.
I’m imagining a glove a bit like a golf or cycling glove with the keyhole shaped cut out on the back of the hand.
Instead of doing an elastic casing as per the pattern you could make the wrist part of the mitten a bit shorter.
Then chop out a curve from the back of the…[Read more] -

Pattern piece: Pocket LiningMy height is 5’0″. I will remove 5-3/4 inches in length from this knee length skirt – increment at waist to hip; hip to mid-thigh, mid-thigh to knee. The position of other design elements and lines is crucial in such a short space, such as the pocket.

It sounds like some good has come from this difficult time re the MIL. I am happy to hear it and perhaps there will be less stress for you.
Here we are on day 4 of school cancellations, government cancellations, court cancellations. While our half of the region got almost no snow, the teachers live scattered across the region and are still in…[Read more]

Thanks, Inder! I’m always looking for a reason to buy another pattern 🙂 Of course as of yesterday E has decided she prefers skirts and dresses, so apparently my pants-sewing project is on hold anyway.

I can tell you what I do, I am not sure if it is the proper way.
Lay your garment out and let it relax. Trace the pattern piece on to the garment, a sharpie is good.
Try snipping somewhere, not needed, on the garment and see how fast it unravels. If it is not too bad, cut and sew promptly. If it frays a lot, cut, zigzag edges first and then sew…[Read more] - Load More
