Thanks ladies! I was wondering about the durability of blackout fabric. I was assuming since it was just a liner it would not be very durable, but I guess I was mistaken. Very good information!

Time for some selfish sewing! I ordered the silk batiste last night to make bias tap with for finishing the neck, arms, and hem facing of the wool dress I am making myself.

I’ve worked with blackout fabric, and it’s lightweight and durable. I use it as a lining/facing in curtains/drapes with ease.

Robin- exploring new fabrics is a fun adventure! Before you know it, you’ll have an entire library of knowledge of drape, strength, weight, texture and more that you will be able to put to use in the most amazing of ways.

I know you can purchase blackout fabric in white or black, and it’s designed to be durable and to really block out the light. If you use that, you could use almost anything on the “surface” (the side that shows) to make it pretty. I’m fairly certain it’s lightweight fabric and easy to work with. Don’t add to either– add to the middle of the skirt. I don’t have the pattern in front of me, but if you make your lengthening line at a pair of notches it will all go smoothly.

Very cool! They look great! I’ve always wanted to learn to silkscreen, is it hard?
