We always go to the Easter egg hunt at the local park on Saturday, the kids get soooo much candy. Last year they got (not kidding) a 5 gallon bucket full of taffy. They think it is the greatest. We gave half to Grandma for treats at her house and the rest lasted us nearly until Halloween.
I always make (or buy) the kids a new church outfit as…[Read more]

We live in AZ. It is hot here…already in the 90’s and here I am sewing a Library dress for Easter. I pretty much leave the sleeves off of most patterns. For this one I planned on just using double fold bias tape in place of the sleeves but things are not lining up correctly when I pin the sides. Do the sleeves need to be on the dress to make the…[Read more]

I have been meaning to try carbon paper but haven’t done it yet. I do have a tracing wheel inherited from my grandmother and I find that for a lot of fabrics, I can just trace over the pattern onto the fabric, without any carbon paper or other ink-leaving device, and the divots left by the wheel are deep enough for me to see the line when I am…[Read more]

Armenians and Iranians are very very similar! I am quite sure I’ve seen some of those picnics 🙂

I’m so sorry to hear that Jay. My mother died of cancer last year and I did not make it home in time either. I felt very helpless and really devastated that I was not able to be there for her at the end. I hope your trip home and your visit to her family is able to provide some small measure of comfort. Hugs to you.

Iranian picnics sound much like Armenian picnics. Armenians (at least in Armenia, not sure whether they do this in Glendale too, perhaps you know?) go out into the woods and build a barbecue pit, then haul in the platters of skewered meat, herbs and vegetables (and lots of bread, no rice). And don’t forget the moonshine. Lots of moonshine.…[Read more]

I use the same ‘pin’ method as Shelley. And @lightningmcstitch – re notches – my mother taught me to always cut my notches out rather than in – much safer 🙂

We’re having a quiet weekend here – today (Good Friday) we’re taking the kids to the Royal Easter Show (Ag show) – but they are more excited by the idea of rides and show bags rather than seeing the animals etc ;-). We have dinner at my parents’ every Sunday, so nothing different there. Hoping to do lots of sewing over the weekend – and over the…[Read more]

Oh, everyone’s plans sound so nice! Don’t worry about the rain, I’m sure the bubbly will be it’s own kind of sunshine 🙂
Thanks for the idea about including some swim gear, that’ll work great for us!

You are both brilliantly brave for talking about what is affecting you, I hope you find some respite and joy soon. I am definitely a believer in trying to find the time and space to do a little of what you love, so sorting sewing space is a must. Good luck both of you. Helena

We are having a very nontraditional Easter.
When my husband and I married 3 years ago he joked that he wanted a Jeroboam of champagne for a dowry. My parents only went and bought one. I was pregnant when we married so we were saving it until I wasn’t pregnant or breastfeeding. Two babies later and I’m still breastfeeding but we’re worried…[Read more]

I’ve used this one multiple times and always LOVE it. It holds up great! It does, however, shrink a lot. It needs more than a single pre-wash.
