  • I have to endure big bang theory alot! Murray claims it helps him to sleep! I want to kick the tv out the door because it keeps me awake!

Another program I liked was Once upon a time. It was a nice twist on the use of fairy tale characters.

And Maleficent, even though rated M, I let my kids watch it because it was such a great story. Of course I…[Read more]

I’m looking forward to checking out the links when I get home and I have one or two to post. I also struggle with the ‘what is ethical’ question, thinking about it is overwhelming. I am keen to consume less and make my choices more wisely. I suppose I think I think I have purchasing choices, so I can do a little something with them. It may not…[Read more]

I cannot do ethical choices at all, I don’t have any fabric store near me! Yes I live in the middle of nowhere! I buy all my fabrics in a street market that happens once a month and I don’t even know where the fabrics came from so is impossible to know how they are manufactured.
What happened in Portugal is that until a few years ago everybody…[Read more]

  • thank very much Sarvi and Meliza I can’t wait to try that. And now that I’ve seen that blog post…

I find this really challenging. Not just because it is hard to find stuff that one might personally deem as ethical, but because what is ethical?

Ethical as a labor practice means definitely European, US, or UK (former UK) manufacturing.

But ethical in environmental practices? Is organic ethical? I’ve read somewhere that the water usage of…[Read more]

In one of my recent editions of Busiessweek magazine there was an article about US textile manufacturers (and one close to me in Gaffney, SC) working to secure all their raw materials from US growers again. I will try to find it and link for those interested.

I worked for several years with (then US manufacturer) Springs Industries, and it was…[Read more]

  • We watch The Big Bang Theory but I find I’m not laughing as much these days. And I really, really dislike Bernadette.

I used to like New Girl but I haven’t seen it in a while.

Friends was a favourite way back when, but I never watched the last 2.5 seasons. Now that it is on Netflix maybe I should remedy that.

    Torchwood is horribly, gloriously…[Read more]

  • @lightningmcstitch and @lattemama, we LOVE Doctor Who. My husband is trying to force me to make him a 10th Doctor costume for halloween (or a Lucius Malfoy costume from Harry Potter, trying to figure with one will be easier haha). We are currently out of them on Netflix so we have to wait for the season airing to be over get more 🙁

    Lightning…[Read more]

Did anyone catch the story on “Last Week Tonight” (HBO) that dealt with this?

You can see it here on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdLf4fihP78 (some bad language involved). Very interesting and also entertaining.

  • We have foxtel which, when I get the chance gives me the opportunity to watch Outlander (can’t wait for the new series), Grimm (hubby loves this one), Our Zoo, Call the Midwife and lately, Frankie. I am excited about the new Hart of Dixie series starting Thursday.

At the moment it is an episode of The block triple threat and then Big bang theory,…[Read more]

  • We watched Daredevil on Netflix too but I was almost repulsed by the violence. A bit too much (and that is coming from someone who likes Game of Thrones – although I have issues with the gratuitous nudity in that).

Doctor Who is a favourite (going to the Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff this summer – yay!) as well as Torchwood.
    Outlander is so…[Read more]

I had a much-needed day off from work yesterday after being immersed in a huge project at work since just after New Years. It’s all finally done and I spent the day sewing up a storm.
I made a Metro tee for a friend, and a skirt and tank top for her daughter as well as a skirt for my girl.

Then at the very last moment before school pick-up I…[Read more]

  • Sewing the Red Riding Hood Cape from LTTS and I forgot to cut down the button loop! Now I am unpicking two rows of stitching, as I only realised after I had sewn around the outside, trimmed the seams and pressed it! thankfully I hadn’t sewn The opening shut yet 🙂

Ellen the music class blouse was one of the first patterns I used. It was and continues to be a favourite. In fact I have just purchased some Liberty earmarked for a long sleeved version but I have the other things mentioned above to tackle first. I tried making one with bound seams and my machine refused to do some of the buttonholes because it…[Read more]

  • Haha! No, I meant I lack the skill to do French seams as well as you do! But I couldn’t resist mentioning your other favorite topic, hehe.
