Nicole, I’m eagerly awaiting the big reveal of the coat!
I had a bit of time on my hands last night while waiting for dough to rise, so I sat down with a cut Maritime and started hand stitching it with button thread, Chaninesque. Not doing the embellishments, just basic construction and tacking down the seams. Going to try it on and then see…[Read more]

Sewing for Yourself 10 years agoJust got patterns for Maritime Top and Gallery Tunic. At first glance I can say the instructions look to be SO much clearer than other commercial patterns I have tried (with failure). I would appreciate any and all tips on adjusting patterns, particularly in the “armscye” area(had to look that one up). Lots of info on fitting for large busts…[Read more]

Sewing for Yourself 10 years agoI love the maritime top – I wear knits most of the time, and I really like the bateau neckline of that top. Also I’m obsessed with stripes.
I also really like the gallery tunic. It reminds me of the Tova top, which I just made a few versions of and which turned out pretty well. The gallery top has a curved hem, though, which I’m really…[Read more] -

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Plaid match up in the forum oliver + s: forest path 10 years ago
There are three places it would be nice to have plaid match, but unless you alter the pattern or are very lucky you’ll probably only manage two out of three.
The 3 areas are: Horizontally across the two front panels. That is to say, if you follow a line of plaid across the body from left to right it should match.
2: Vertically across the front…[Read more] -

I have had the forest path pattern in my stash for some time. I was waiting for the perfect fabric – I found it today, a dark pink & black plaid in a wool blend. Only $9 per metre, a real steal!
For those lovely ladies that have sewn using plaid, any handy tips? I picked up some pink bemsilk for the lining, haven’t sewn with that either. I’ll be…[Read more] -

Fitting isn’t the issue really, just my fabric choice.
I managed to fix up the piping sewing on the skirt and fuse the interfacing to the respective parts and then the baby woke up (after less than half an hour in bed and to the noise of the truck). So it has been a non eventful and non productive day so far. The kids are due home so I am hoping…[Read more]

Enjoy sewing your shirt Ellen. I think a smart shirt is lovely on a fellow (and I love sewing them too).
Don’t panic, re the Tea Party dress, Tamara. Trixie is 8 months old and I can just squeeze her into the 0-3 month if she is wearing a disposable.
I finished a vintage coat for Lidia and now I am on to one for Elsa. 1960’s I am guessing, by…[Read more]

Justsewit, little ones grow so fast! And your Carousel dress sounds lovely.
I got through the magic burrito stage on the shirt! I thought about forging ahead to the sleeve plackets, but I only want to sew those ONE time, with minimal unpicking. So I’m holding off until tomorrow. I’m starting to think I can make button-down shirts, but it seems…[Read more]
